WALKING FROM KAVRAN TO THE SEA

in Wednesday Walk3 years ago

I walked a couple of kilometers today.

(Enlargeable)

From the village called Kavran to the nearest stretch of coastline.

img_5106_malo.jpg

The day was cold but sunny.

img_4987_malo.jpg

The wind was pretty strong. Especially along the seashore.

img_5034_malo.jpg

The overall atmosphere was bright, fresh, and uplifting.

img_5096_malo.jpg

It wasn't a long drive from my hometown to Kavran. Only about fifteen kilometers, something like that.

(Enlargeable)

On arrival, I parked the car behind the last houses on the outskirts of the village. It was a nice spot with a great view of the misty horizon and the sea. From there ...

(Enlargeable)

... I walked uphill to the Church of St. Jerome. This is the only church in Kavran. It was built in the 18th century on the site of an older one from the 15th century.

img_4972_malo.jpg

This circular manhole was photographed on the ground behind the church.

img_4974_malo.jpg

There was a bus stop at the crossroad near the church. Here you can see a detail of that little plexiglass shelter. After this shot ...

img_5076_malo.jpg

... the walk continued downhill ...

img_5071_malo.jpg

... towards the sea.

img_5078_malo.jpg

I passed by an old bunker that nowadays shelters various party remains. Empty bottles. Used condoms. Stuff like that.

img_5077_malo.jpg

Swallowed by dense vegetation, the thing is barely visible from the road.

img_5074_malo.jpg

A bit later ...

img_5070_malo.jpg

... I passed by this isolated house, built on a nice scenic spot along the road that leads to the sea.

(Enlargeable)

While I was slowly approaching the coast ...

img_5067_malo.jpg

... this iconic signal pole was appearing and disappearing from view.

img_5068_malo.jpg

The road was long and I was slow.

(Enlargeable)

The sun was shining, the wind was blowing. The weather was extremely nice.

(Enlargeable)

Here I passed by a highly decorative wheel cap displayed on the shrubs.

img_5062_malo.jpg

I was almost there when this photograph was taken.

img_5060_malo.jpg

Here you can see a silhouette of some resilient plant that grew in between the coastal rocks.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can take a wider look at the scenery.

(Enlargeable)

I took plenty of photographs while standing there, more or less in the same spot in front of the pole that signals dangerous rocks near the surface.

(Enlargeable)

The waves were rolling.

001.gif

In this GIF you can see them moving.

img_4985_malo.jpg

A bit later and about fifty meters further ...

img_5048_malo.jpg

... I reached this calm inlet that looked and felt considerably different.

img_5050_malo.jpg

Here you can see the trees on the hill across that little bay. In the following photograph ...

img_5047_malo.jpg

... you can take a look at some houses on the same hill.

(Enlargeable)

I spent some time sniffing around and searching for details in this area.

img_5053_malo.jpg

Here you can see one of the plants that grow on small patches of soil trapped in the holes on and in between the rocks.

img_5056_malo.jpg

Plantago subulata is the name of this species.

img_5052_malo.jpg

Here you can see two plants near each other. One of them is Limonium cancellatum. I wasn't able to identify the other one.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can take a much better look at the Limonium cancellatum plant.

img_5051_malo.jpg

A meter or two further I found these two colorful pieces of something that looks like terracotta or something like that.

(Enlargeable)

I had a good half an hour of fun in that inlet ...

img_5032_malo.jpg

... and then ...

(Enlargeable)

... my focus returned to the waves and foam.

img_4986_malo.jpg

The salty air was a joy to breathe.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see the higher rocks on the stretch of coastline a kilometer or two from where I stood.

img_5058_malo.jpg

With this photograph ...

img_5061_malo.jpg

... the walk continues uphill.

img_5059_malo.jpg

Back to the village. The vegetation was uniformly green along the road. Almost completely so.

img_5075_malo.jpg

I found only a few small patches of brown foliage.

img_5081_malo.jpg

Half a kilometer from Kavran I photograph this long drystone wall.

img_5082_malo.jpg

A bit further, when I zoomed in, I noticed the church tower peeking at me above the trees.

img_5083_malo.jpg

This transmitter tower was photographed from the same spot. The thing grew on the distant hill to my left.

img_5086_malo.jpg

When this photograph was taken ...

img_5087_malo.jpg

... I was in the village again. Someone turned a simple wheelbarrow into a decorative element with some aromatic and succulent plants growing in there.

img_5085_malo.jpg

Here you can see the Cherry plum tree that grew in between two houses. It was covered with lovely white flowers.

img_5092_malo.jpg

A bit further, while rambling around ...

img_5090_malo.jpg

... I same across these Daffodils.

img_5091_malo.jpg

They are a very photogenic bunch.

img_5093_malo.jpg

While following one of the narrow streets around the center of Kavran ...

img_5094_malo.jpg

... after taking this shot ...

(Enlargeable)

... a black dog appeared from somewhere.

img_5103_malo.jpg

The dog followed me for a minute or two and then disappeared.

img_5110_malo.jpg

On the way back to the car, I saw a nice collection of tractor gadgets.

img_5108_malo.jpg

They were nicely arranged on the lawn behind one of the houses on the outskirts of Kavran, across the street from the church.

img_5107_malo.jpg

And that's it. Soon I entered the car and drove away.

The little staircase (or stone steps) next to the small window on the church are neat. I wonder if they are meant for a cat? 🤔
I don't know what else they would be used for.

Yes 🙂it's a mysterious architectural element. Doesn't look user-friendly for humans. Maybe ghosts and angels use them. Birds and cats too. Maybe.

Yay! 🤗

Beautiful walk… all the way towards the sea. So much to see… houses scenery and beautiful views.
Looks like a long walk, but worth it.
Spring flowers and the dog are cute.
The purple wheelbarrow. Very cool 😎
Thanks for sharing this walk with us @borjan

A lighthouse far out to sea recalled the joke:
The tired postman sailed on a boat to the lighthouse and handed over the letter.
The lighthouse keeper says to the postman:

  • Once again you sail to the lighthouse so angry, and I will subscribe to some newspaper!

A ch cool things you spotted on your walk to the coast I love all the images but especially those with the water breaking over the rocks

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

It was a productive walk , I like the look of the cart with the plants , the person who put it there made excellent use of it .

great photographs

It's the first time I've seen a wheelbarrow turned into a place to grow aromatic and succulent plants like you said. this seems like a very creative idea i will try it

beautiful green nature. I like walking in clear weather. When I see sea waves, I feel comfortable and happy, as if they remove all pain and tension by gentle blue water 💦

from that road we can see a very beautiful sea view, and in the sea there is a kind of building like that, may I know what it is.

flowers and plants make nature happy with large smile ☺️

True 🙂
