Hello folks of the Hive realm!
Guess what? It's still Wednesday here in Montreal Canada. That means I still have time to share a #Wednesday walk post hosted by @tattoodjay.
I am exhausted and lazy after a few shifts at work in the restaurant. It's non stop and I don't take breaks. I come from the old school where, even when it seems like there's nothing to do, there is something to do.
I managed to stroll around the area lately, to catch a glimpse of the last bit of nature that grows out of the concrete. I live smack in the centre of the city. This is a spot where everything you need is just a few steps away.
It comes with a price. That is a lack of natural surroundings.
Next door to me is a building with nice condos attached to my building with average apartments.
A husky often sits on the balcony and looks out. He has always been snobby with me and never acknowledges my greetings.
On this day, for the first time he actually stuck his nose out and responded to me. A breakthrough moment I must say.
I happened to be lucky to have a tiny public space around the corner from my building. This is a place with a garden and lounging areas. On days off we sometimes sit and get some sun.
It took me most of the summer to convince Marc to lounge by the terrace with pink metal things to lean on. He always says he wants to sit on a regular chair.
Once I convinced him to hang out here, we took it to another level. We have brought some cushioned mats and a bottle of wine. In the evening it gets darker so we have some lanterns. We have heard people as they walk by saying they thought it was a great idea. One girl asked us what time it was, and told us she really liked our set up.
In the middle there are tables and stools but this is not for me. I would rather lounge lazily.
This small area has a vegetable garden which doesn't seem to be flourishing. The kale did quite well but usually kale takes care of itself.
There is the odd Swiss chard and one cabbage that refuses to get more leaves.
Some peppers and tomatoes refuse to grow and ripen. It seems like they are not being kept by the organization that planted them.
The tomatoes don't get much sun due to being hidden by many other plants and leaves.
There are other items planted next to them so they must be getting strangled.
There are cherry tomatoes that look like they just may ripen. Surrounding the tomatoes are strawberry plants.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted one lone ripe strawberry.
It's September. I have never seen strawberries growing past June here in Canada.
This garden has a few flowers including nasturtiums which seem to grow well. These are edible but I don't like the taste. They are pretty to look at and grow like weeds.
I think these are some kind of sunflower, but the thing that confuses me is that some are pink. I always imagined them to be yellow only.
There are a few large yellow sunflowers, which are the typical ones that I'm used to seeing. They were visited and enjoyed by some bees.
Lately we have been bombarded by bees when we sit at a park. They seem to want anything and everything.
It's nice to see bees where they belong, which is sucking on a flower.
At the end of the little garden park, we see the neighbourhood resto bar. It has been in this location for more than twenty years. It is never empty. We no longer go to pubs but this one was always relaxing. You can be anyone to hang out here. Whether you're eighteen or eighty, you'll fit in. If you wear sweat pants or a suit, you'll fit in.
If you're in Montreal and are looking for a pint, the name of the place is Else's.
After checking on the neighbourhood garden, we stroll down the street nearby.
I can't help but always admire the colourful old town homes of this area. In other parts of town you won't see much of this.
Turning a corner I found a man singing and playing some good old tunes that everybody knows.
I imagined him back in the day playing and singing in some local bars where outside are parked some old Chevys.
He seemed to be doing well with a few bills and coins in his case. Yes I added a toonie. That's what we call our 2 dollar coin.
There are several alleys around the city. This is always a route I enjoy taking instead of the sidewalk.
It's quiet and has few pedestrians. I can also get a glimpse of buildings from the back.
Montreal is famous for it's spiral metal staircases.
Most of the very spiralled ones seem to be in the back. This to me is a death trap for someone who could lose their footing during an ice storm in winter.
I quite like the look of them but imagine if you have to move furniture into your apartment up these stairs? Here you have to pay a mover extra if these are the stairs they have to deal with.
As we move along onto the street once more, we see the various public seating and hang out spots. This particular one is inviting to me. I like something simple made of wood. Something I could make if I had the tools.
Five or six blocks is the former home of the late singer songwriter Leonard Cohen. Years ago we watched him go into the grey door with a shopping bag from the wine store.
A year or two later we found him sitting at the little park across from his house, on one of these benches. This is known as the Portuguese park. The area is considered to be little Portugal.
Kitty corner from the park, is this abandoned building which has different artwork on it then before. I find it to be interesting but quite strange. the mural before was also kind of strange and creepy. Unlike the last one, this one is a bit 3D.
I have always had a curiosity as to what was inside it and why it's been abandoned for so long.
We headed back to our apartment and I got one last photo before we got there. It's a block away from our place.
This is a huge mural of Leonard Cohen which is often surrounded by tourists listening to a guide telling them boring touristy stuff.
A few weeks ago fellow Hiver @ericvancewalton took a photo of this. I wasn't able to meet up at the time. Strangely prior to knowing he was in town, I got saw someone whom I thought looked just like him.
It may have been him or a strange coincidence. We'll never know.
I hope to have a few more leisure strolls in the city before we have to layer up with coats and sweaters.
It seems like we just entered summer. Now I see winter in the short distance waving at me with a maniacal smile.
Thanks for dropping by and have a great day.

When I first saw the photo, I thought that he/she is your dog, and that you took him/her for a Wednesday Walk. This is why I clicked on the post. Probably I am not alone with this.
Good photo choice. Eye catching.
It's funny. I clicked on a different thumbnail but it didn't happen. Apparently it worked out haha. I feel better now that you said that. I didn't mean to accidentally click bait haha.
Thanks!

I'm very sorry that you have so much work and are exhausted, as you say, you have the habit of always being busy.
It's good that you discovered this beautiful natural place close to home and you could sunbathe and take a nature bath.
How many vegetables and fruits there are in the garden, it's good that the strawberry was ripe.
Beautiful neighborhood to walk, I love the colorful mural on the corner, what a shame you couldn't meet our friend Ericvancewalton, he would have been happy to see you
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you shared this pleasant hiking experience.
Have a beautiful night and a happy restHow are you dear friend @carolynstahl good night
Hello my friend! I have to search for the good things when living in the city. There are nice parks and sitting areas until winter when they are snow covered.
Eric invited me to join them for lunch but I was not able to at the time. He was leaving after that but yes it would have been really nice.
Thank you for your comment and support. I wish you a wonderful day.
I love the spiral staircases, those things are my favorite even if they are pretty dangerous overall lol.
Love the flowers and community garden! That definitely is a big bonus, it really improves neighborhoods quite a bit!
Yeah they are super unique and interesting. After all these years I still think they're pretty cool.
The little garden is new since this year. It was a different style before, but I didn't live around the corner until recently. It's a bonus until winter for sure.
Thanks for the visit.😊
For living in the middle of a city, you sure have it good. I love imagining you in your park with your lanterns. Montreal is very pretty! I haven't been there for almost fifty years, and do not remember how pretty it is.
It really was much better when you were last there. There have been quite a few changes with construction and destruction.
For us, this is the only area we can be comfortable in. We despise public transportation so everything is close by.
Thanks for the visit.
I to am old school like you when it came to working, there is always somethign to do if you have the right mindset
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk :)
The work ethic has gone down the tubes now that people can just stare at their cell phones at work haha.
Thank you for the opportunity to join Wednesday walk.
Glad to see another person from the Montreal area. It's such a wonderful city 😎. I've grown there but moved in the suburbs about 10 years ago, and I miss living in the city from time to time.
I have only lived here for 12 years and another time for 2 years. I grew up in Hamilton Ontario which I like to call "Hellmilton".
For me the city is convenient. I can only work in a restaurant because of my experience in life and my lack of French but it's the thing that I like the most anyway.
Thanks for your visit.

Aww thank you my friend. It is always nice to hear from you and have a lovely comment. Have a great weekend!
Love the old buildings and those spiral staircases. But I would have a headache using such staircases. Long time ago, my friends’ house had this sort of spiral staircase which gave me a lot of balancing troubles!
haha! Try moving furniture up there!😂
Ya. Try moving a piano!
Hopefully your day is fun, dear mother, it turns out to be bored too, mother cooks, just like we need a travel mother when you go to Indonesia
I would love to go back to Indonesia. The most friendly people!
We waited with pleasure
Hopefully it's not just a dream!
What a beautiful city, it has everything from quaint spots on the streets as well as street art and beautiful flowers and trees all over the place.
Oh I really appreciate your comment. Thank you so much!
The Leonard Cohen Mural is amazing! I looked at it for more than 3 minutes, what a masterpiece! Maybe listen to the story is boring, yes, but súper original mural! Montreal seems to be beautiful and yes I guess it’s strange to see strawberries growing in September.
I like those stairs!
Yes it's amazing how they can do something like this mural. Strawberries in September is very strange to see.
Thank you for your visit. I wish you the best.
She is a beauty of a dog, I also have one at home, she is a female, her name is cookie. The photos in your publication are very beautiful, I congratulate you and wish you success.
Hello my friend. I have been distracted and busy but I always appreciate your visit.
Your dog is so adorable and very stylish. The dog in my post belongs to my neighbour and I always say hello when I walk by.
Thank you for your support. Wishing you and your family all the best.
Wow! You must be very busy and too tired to do any post!
Hope you’re very well and that you could have more free time for yourself.
