An Afternoon of Gratitude and Play

Happy Hump Day, Hivers!

How's everyone's week going?

My kids' classes were canceled yesterday due to the heat index advisory. I expect they'll be homeschooled for the next few days. It's incredibly dry and humid here, especially midday. Thankfully, it cools down after 3 PM. We played television inside the house until the late afternoon, and when the heat had passed, we went to the open field once the heat subsided.

The open field I mentioned is just a ten-minute walk from our house. It's a great place to relax in the afternoon. It's more than just a patch of grass in an open field; it's a place where the day's tension in the middle of a busy day seems to melt away.

We grabbed our trusty camping chairs, the kind that fold up nice and light, perfect for a quick trip. We brought two, but in our haste, we completely forgot a picnic mat! Oh well. Thankfully, we did remember the kids' tumblers to keep them hydrated after our walk. We decided not to bother with snacks, knowing there were plenty of little stores surrounding the field, selling everything from chips to local treats.

We found a spot for our chairs close to the concrete path; our favorite spot was already taken. The kids immediately started playing and were busy chasing each other. My youngest one, seeing the kids flying kites, asked with hopeful eyes if we could bring one next time—he's excited to try it out. Over on the other side of the field, well away from the picnic blankets and families, two groups were playing soccer.

It was a relaxed afternoon. We sat there, simply watching the kids play, and found ourselves reflecting on life. We used to dream of this exact moment. When we were both tied to office jobs, we dreamed of the chance to be truly present parents without the daily stress of the commute. That dream became reality when my husband was given the opportunity to work remotely.

We find ourselves so focused on working towards those big, far-off dreams that we can forget to pause and be grateful for the smaller, everyday dreams that have already come true. We've come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. Let's remember to appreciate all the small wins along the way.

The kids' voices pulled us back into the present; they were asking for snacks. I got up and went to the nearby Korean store. I bought Samanco, the fish-shaped ice cream. My youngest's favorite is strawberry, so I got him that, and chocolate for the rest of us.

After their quick snack and drink, the kids were re-energized and returned to their games. Their attention soon shifted to a small tractor parked along the side of the field. I approached the cleaning crew working nearby and asked if the children could take a closer look. They kindly gave their permission, but with a gentle reminder for the kids to be careful. Since my kids have a fascination with engines and machinery, getting to inspect a real tractor was a genuine delight for them.

Other kids followed us to check out the tractor, waiting for their turn. So, my kids hopped down after they were finished, giving the other children a chance. We folded our chairs, gathered our water bottles, and prepared to walk home.

They were still energetic on the walk home, with the tractor remaining their primary subject of conversation. They were so engrossed in the moment that they didn't realize we'd reached our doorstep.

And that was our lovely, simple afternoon at the field. Life's busy, but moments like these are the ones we'll truly remember.

Grabi talaga iniy sa Pilipinas now, after that cold season last month. It's scary how high it is. Maigi din and there's a suspension of classes. And what a nice afternoon gala with your family. Lapit lang and it has a nice view in there. It's cooler too for sure in there coz it was surrounded with greens. And open fields din sya. Uwu

Sensible only going out when the heat had calmed down inthe evening

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day

Your place is a paradise, peaceful and calm.
