Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I'm back with the last batch of photos from the frozen river I was walking along the other day!
Frozen Sandy Morning Walk
The weather here has been remarkable cold lately! It's been a pretty enjoyable thing for me that's for sure!
We are currently a little bit above freezing, hitting around the 40's and that was pretty nice. We ended up taking a little walk today to stretch and get some fresh air which was nice, because just like last week and it's going to continue for a bit, we are getting some reaaaaally cold as weather coming up! This means that there may be more frozen river walks in store if things shake out..
The nice thing about these rivers and areas that we spend a lot of time in is that there is usually decent places to park! There are so many places that I want to visit and figure out where to go, but the biggest pain in the ass is that it's incredibly difficult to figure out where you can park in these damn places.
Thankfully this area of the river was pretty easy, as it's got a bit of neighborhood near by so there was a lot of open area for me to pull up and figure out how the heck to get down to the waters edge. I think for me, that is one of the most challenging aspects of enjoying the presence of a water area. We've been to a bunch of places where I tried to go fishing with my son but we couldn't figure out where the hell we can park, so we gave up and went somewhere else lol.
The combination of the ice flows and the early morning sun were really nice! I love seeing the reflection of that giant orange ball as it comes over the trees and hits the water and ice. It was cold as shit when I was there, but with the sun hitting you directly, the coldness is a little more bearable as you get a degree or two of warmth from the radiation.
I find it really wild that the river can be as wide as this is, but still have a thin sheet of ice covering a vast majority of it. The water moves pretty quick, and it is absolutely constant so the fact that it is covered at all is quite the wonder. With the picture below though, you can see that there is a lot of pressure on the ice that is at the peripheries of the river! It gets pushed up quite a bit as time goes on, and debris or more ice gets in the mix and just pushes outward until it hits the sandy shoreline.
I think one of the things that we missed this year was going fishing down at the spot here. We went here 2 years ago and it was pretty enjoyable, minus the fact that we got some poison ivy lol. This allowed me to have a little bit of insight as to the cool path the shoreline takes until you get to some private property which I wasn't intending on getting near. As long as the river is at a lower water level like it is here, you are good to walk quite a distance downstream which is cool! There were some kids that ended up walking a really long way one year and although we followed for a little while, we headed back when they got to a big debris pile.
With the increasingly cold temperatures coming up this week, with already freezing cold water, I wonder what the ice formations are going to look like towards the end of the week!

That is a neat walk. I love it when people make the effort to go out and enjoy the outdoors even when it is cold. I did the same and might have to put together a #wednesdaywalk post.
Cheers thanks man! I agree. My wife hates it but I say fuck it, gotta be outside to get the blood flowing!
Nice photos, thanks for sharing! 🙏 We're experiencing a polar vortex over here, at night it reaches -20 degrees Celsius (-5 degrees Fahrenheit? I think?). Even that's really cold temperature for here! 🥶
I couldn't believe it either, seeing pictures of snow coming out of Florida! Whatta time to be alive 😄
It's definitely cold! So much for global warming right? They said fuck it since they were always wrong and went with the most middle-of-the-road "climate change" that way they are never wrong LOL.
Hopefully you guys stay warm!!
Great shots, its been well below freezing here for a few days, todays high will be 32 just on freezing point, but hopefully we will have a bit of a warmer spell ahead
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day
Yeah it's been cold but it was nice today was a bit warmer than it has been so that was refreshing!
We recently had a polar vortex push through that has solidified a lot of the water in the area. I expect people will be out on the bay soon doing some fishing.
Oh man yeah it was pretty brutal how cold it's been lol the good thing is it certainly froze the lakes for that type of stuff! I'm hoping to see one this weekend if we can manage it!
missed fishing??
noooo, it's a great pity!;(
fishing is so relaxing, I love it!
Unfortunately, now we can only dream of it because of huge tragedy in our local sea..
Oh no that sucks! What happened a bad chemical spill? I hate when those things happen and it's hopefully not because a company was lazy.
Fishing is certainly a favorite activity of ours!
