Friday night. We stayed home after a busy work week because we didn't have the energy to move anywhere...
But we had enough energy to agree where we could go for the weekend ๐
The weather forecast predicts a nice day on Saturday during the day, but also rain and showers in the evening.
We are corresponding on Viber with two more of our constant companions, who will go with the two of us, and we are considering where we could go and avoid rain in the afternoon...
We have several cities in mind at a distance of 100 to 150 km, since we have an idea to go for a walk while the weather is still nice. As the forecast predicts cloud cover from the north, the north falls.
We will not go to the west and south because the selected cities are small and we do not know what they would do there. And so we choose the east...
Since our agreement on Viber, when I clicked on the get summary option, I saw the AI โโoption "AI is confused by the agreement about the movement routes" briefly explained.
We confused the artificial intelligence? ๐
To help AI, we wrote that we were going to Timisoara.
We laughed at this answer of the AI โโand knew that an unforgettable friendship awaited us on that excursion.
We started early in the morning. One of us remembered that Romania is in a different time zone and we lose an hour in arriving.
We choose a smaller border crossing and around noon, we find a parking lot in the city center.
The buildings in Timisoara are very beautiful, they remind me of the buildings in Vienna, probably because the city at some point in its history belonged to the Habsburg Monarchy and since then has been unofficially called "Little Vienna".
The large mural on the wall of the parking lot, although it looks nice, somehow stands out from the architecture of the surrounding buildings.
We cross the street and exit to the central town square.
We walk along Victory Square from the building of the Romanian National Opera to the Church of the Three Hierarchs and look for a cafe where we can refresh ourselves after our trip.
I don't have a good picture of the opera house because a stage was placed in front of it because of the festival that was held that day.
OK, probably that festival will bring us some other kind of entertainment when we won't have photos of beautiful baroque buildings.
We found a cafe where we drank a wonderful cappuccino. and after we walked around Victory Square, we went on to tour the city.
The festival that was held, Days of Hungary in Timisoara, occupied most of the central city streets and squares.
In Freedom square, we came across rows of connected stalls with various little things, from pizzas, food, to souvenirs... and one stall with a beer tap ๐
What is the most necessary for a successful trip?
Good health, comfortable father's day and good weather ๐
When I photographed the monument of St. Mary and saw what the sky looks like above the halo on the head of the sculpture, I thought, "Yes, this is it, this is what we need today. Nice sunny day".
I drank one beer and we continued walking.
Passing through the streets with decorated building facades, we come out to the beautiful Union Square.
A wonderful wide square, on one side the Serbian Orthodox Church and the home of the Serbian community, and on the other side the Cathedral of St. George. on one side, the National Museum of Art, and on the other, the installation of the first electric trams.
In the center of the square, the monument of the Holy Trinity, also known as the Plague Column (in memory of several thousand martyrs in the middle of the 18th century).
Right near the monument, there is also a public fountain, which many people use for taking pictures. we found a wedding photography shoot...
After this square, we went on a tour of the famous Timisoara church and two parks along with a walk along the promenade by the river, which I wrote about.
While we were walking along the shore on the other side of the river, someone was running a marathon.
Along the way, apart from the wolf sculpture with Romulus and Remus, we saw several other interesting ones, either in the central streets or in the parks.
And finally we reached the center again, where the festival was held...
A long line of food stands was what we needed to complete the experience of this beautiful day.
Although we expected to have lunch in Romanian cuisine, we had to "make do" with Hungarian specialties.
Smoked pork leg (first time I see them made as rings), sausages, barbecue meat and fries, stew and dough specialties were quite satisfying. When we add to that a treat in the form of mini donuts, which this "princess" also ate, I can say that we had a really good meal.
On the way back from Timisoara, we stopped at the famous Iulius Mall, where we did a little shopping, went up to the restaurant floor where we drank coffee and when it was already dark, we headed home.
This was a wonderful weekend experience and walk troungt Timisoara.
I hope that we will repeat it in the first days of spring, since the city is wonderful for excursions, not too far away and not too big...
But still so big that it took me a few days to prepare a post with this walk, which I'm only publishing after a few days, just in time for #wednesdaywalk.
Thank you for stopping by my post and I hope you enjoyed the photos and the story I shared with you
