Wednesday Walk: April Showers in the Queen's Park

in Wednesday Walk8 months ago (edited)

For my #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay I had a walk around the Queen's Park in my local town. It was opened back in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. Over the years, the park has been used for fetes, musical festivals and rallies or just to have a stroll around. Source

As per usual, I started off in sunshine and then got caught up in a downpour of rain before the sun came back out. April showers have arrived.

There is also a bandstand and in the summer the local brass band play on some Sunday afternoons. I have a little smile to myself when I walk past the bandstand. One of my friend's who sadly passed away year's ago and before his time, once told me that in his youth he lost his virginity one night in the bandstand. Ever since then I've looked at it in a totally different light!

As I did a circular route, I walked past the county cricket pavillion. I'm not massively into cricket. It's a good job because I don't think we are particularly good at it but it's a nice park to play cricket in.

There is a lovely miniature railway for children. The driver has to toot the horn to move the ducks and geese off the railway track as the train goes around the park.

As a child, the lake used to look quite big, but not anymore. It's still a nice size, though, and in the summer, you can queue up at the boathouse and hire a little boat to row around the lake.

The greenhouse also looked a lot bigger and was full of plants, but they don't seem to use it for much nowadays.

As you walk around, there are always things to see, such as the piece of art commemorating the late Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee in 2013.

During the summer, the park looks even better when the apple and cherry blossom trees are in full bloom. They are just beginning to spring into life now.

In my younger days, I also used to jog around here, but not anymore. Those days are long gone. Thank goodness!

Looks like it rained just before you took the pictures. Have you felt that fresh earthy natures smell after the rain? I felt that freshness after seeing your pictures🤗

Thank you. Yes, I like that earthy smell. 🙂
