I can't really say this is a mountain region, but mother nature is funny. We usually have nice spring days at the end of March, beginning of April, then when you think winter is gone, snow arrives and cancels every evolution mother nature made that far, buds are freezing and we can kiss good bye to a lot of things.

Ahh, now I know what you're talking about! We sometimes call this cold snap "Jewish Kuchki". It happens every year (!) before the Jewish Passover, although the etymology comes from the name of Sukkot. Yes, it often damages crops, blooming fruit trees, and grapes...
After the epic snowfall that was in Kyiv on March 22-23, 2013, we noticed that the last snow in Kyiv happens on March 22 or 23. We sometimes joke about it.
