High in the mountains of Southern Albania, sitting on the banks of the Vjose river stands the town of Permet.
Arriving early evening, it was nice to grab a beer chill and then take a stroll.
The rock formation at the edge of the town stands 150ft tall, it has an archeological site on top dating back to the 4th C. Not only was I was too knackered to contemplate the climb, but a nice refreshing 4 beers being supped would not have aided my attempts. I'm amazed I didn't have camera wobble!!!
The town square, a few folk out strolling in the warm air, making their way home, or making their way to a coffee shop, who knows? There was little of interest in the town so I wandered away towards the outskirts
Permet is a small town that has a population of circa 6k, it dates back to the 8th C, with nothing really left of the old town. In fact during WWII, both the Italians and Germans burnt the town down as the area was a centre of the anti-fascist, communist supporting movement.
There are in the region 15 churches and 4 mosques, this one was easy to find and is fairly non descript and recent.
Turning left, following an anti-clockwise route, (my preference every time) it was good to get amongst the beautiful Soviet constructed buildings
There is something about this brutal architecture that really turns me on, way and above all others.
The informal family gathering enjoying coffee in the light of a shop window
Men gather to watch a chess game under the glow of a street lamp, all offering opinions, all wanting to get in on the game
Whilst a couple sit in their shop of all sorts, waiting for the last customer of the day, alas it won't be me as I need more beer, so off I headed.

The image above this comment looks like Moss Side during the 80's with more muck attached!
philistine!!!!!!!
Interesting that rock formation towering high above the town. Good you didn’t attempted to climb up especially after a few beer 🍻 hehehe 🤭
Great walk around and interesting to hear you prefer the brutal architecture above all. It does have something and you just always seem to notice it when traveling.
