Like all the great capitals of the world, Madrid also has very specific areas, which due to their characteristics and relevance are usually compared to those that have made the neighborhoods of other large cities world famous, saving, of course, distances.

Because it is an area of great showiness, where not only numerous buildings, palaces and hotels come together that were part of the glorious contributions of Madrid Modernism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but also the strategically chosen place where the entertainment culture set its sights, offering an audience always hungry for emotions and fantasies, an extraordinary world where they can keep up to date with the great world premieres.

Due to this and although the different circumstances that have led to a crisis where many venues have had to close or reconvert, the cinemas, theaters and elegant restaurants that are located throughout the length and breadth of this vital artery of Madrid, the Gran Vía, make it the perfect comparison to Spanish Broadway.

Also, as happens with its New York counterpart, the popular, as anyone who visits our city and takes the time to walk around can see, looks, like the Roman god Janus, two faces: that of those who can afford any kind luxury and the other, totally opposite, which is none other than those forgotten by the goddess Fortuna, whose luxury, sadly, consists of being able to eat every day.

Between them, no matter how harsh it may seem, they make up a very particular picturesqueness, to which an authentic bombardment of subliminal messages is directed, which often makes us forget that it is the powerful multinationals, the great empires of communication, who in fact they seem to direct destinations, in which many times, our perverse habit of compulsive consumers becomes the smoke that blinds our eyes.

But this Madrid Broadway, this Gran Vía, which on some occasions I have come to compare with that the Boulevard of the Broken Dreams, to which Joaquín Sabina and Chavela Vargas came to sing as a duet, is also one of the stages of cultural Madrid, mysterious and festive, which frequently captivates the attention of characters related to the entertainment world.

So it is not surprising that any day, walking through its wide avenues, one finds oneself in front of a section cut, where a crowd, surprised but happily curious, swirls in front of the large film crews, deployed in the most street corners. strategic, to observe the filming of a scene or, better still, to see, from a foggy distance, one or more of your favorite actors or actresses.

In short, a walk along the Gran Vía, Madrid's Broadway, apart from never leaving anyone indifferent, can also be rewarded by that remarkable novelty that can be seeing your heroes on the screens a few inches from you.

Thanks for showing us the streets of Madrid!
I enjoy this walk with you, @juancar347.

Wellcome to my world, friend

Wow it's so weird to see people out on the streets enjoying themselves too.

Great walk and great shots too!

In reality, after these hard years that we have been enduring the Covid-19 pandemic, it must be recognized that people needed to go out, be distracted, recover their lives, as far as possible. The Center of Madrid is, right now, a hive of people: wherever you go, you find the places full and that, in part, also motivates us to hope that in the near future, everything will return to normal. Thank you very much for your comment and kind regards.

I have been many times to Broadway in NYC so it’s great to see the Broadway there
I think your right with the feeling of broken dreams fir so many

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk
