As you may or may not know, we moved to a new town just a little while ago, maybe 8 months or so. One of the things that we like about the town we live in now is how walkable it is.
Its really a fairly large city that is right next, and sort of attached, to a much larger city. But our section is small enough that we can walk over to the little downtown area when take our dog for his daily stroll. It only takes about 20 minutes or so to get down there, and that is pretty reasonable for us. It's a nice walk as well because it's a large loop that is part way through residential homes and part way through a woodsy walking path.
A big incentive to make the journey is that there are two different ice cream parlors there as well. We don't always walk downtown, but when we do, you know that we always get ice cream. If we needed to justify it (which we don't) we could say that we are walking off the calories we consume from our delicious treat. Really, we don't care about that though.
Anyway, I had this idea to take a photo of each cone that we got throughout the spring, summer, and fall, though there were a fair amount of times that I had forgotten. Nonetheless I still built up quite the collection over that time period.
As you can see from many of the photos I also forgot to take pictures right away when getting our cones. Most times I only remembered to do so after I had already eaten some. It alway tends to be a little hectic when exiting the shop with the melting ice cream cone in one hand and a dog leash in the other and no additional hand for a camera phone. Nonetheless I still somehow managed most times.
One of the places actually gave our dog a small scoop of vanilla ice cream to eat himself one day. They put in a small cup for him to have on his own. We originally thought that it was a nice gesture by them but then came to realize that they had actually charged us an additional 0.30 cents for it. So it was more of an up-sell than it was kindness I guess. The dog was pretty happy that day as you can imagine, so I suppose that was the important thing.
I often get the same flavors of ice cream, "Bordeaux Cherry" and "chocolate...something or-other." My wife usually goes into the store to buy them while I wait outside with our dog so I don't know the exact name of the chocolate.
Here is a philosophical question for you:
Should the chocolate flavor go on top of the cherry or visa versa? What do you think?
Sometimes I change up the flavor combo and get Moosetracks...
...Or cookie dough.
This walk brings us through a cemetary right before the woodsy path that I mentioned.
I often try and take a photo of my ice cream there, for the spooky factor. That is if I can make it there quick enough, before the ice cream melts or I eat too much of it.
And next is the woodsy path. It's a nice length of walk just a little off the beaten trail.
The last two photos were taken on different walks in different cities. I've included them here for obvious reasons. It's because they are about ice cream if you hadn't guessed.
The last photo was from Ottawa, Canada's capital city.
Okay so I had really high hopes of this idea of me talking about walking to get ice cream but im fearing that it has actually turned into a bit of a shit post. But I'll let you be the judge of that. Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Not shitty at all! lol.
I love being in walking distance of many things. It is kinda what the 15 minute city thing is all about but not what it has been hijacked to be about.
Those are some quality ice creams! I am not a fan of double scoops with different flavours but I am massively in the minority at least with my own family I know!
Yeah the 15min city thing is a great initiative. In general it's not done very well in Canada unfortunately. Maybe in very large cities.
I always go for 2 scoops of different flavors 😋
I used to always do two then I changed, I have no idea why!
I love the 15 min idea. To have stuff that I didn't need to drive to all the time is magic. My area is quite like that just now which is one of the reasons I love living where I do
Yeah it makes so much sense. We have a walkable area but it is limited still. There are a few restaurants, pubs, cafe, ice cream, library a few shops and what not. We couldn't walk to do groceries though, but that is a close drive away.
Yeah there is a lot to be said for the quality of life it gifts to you.
I have a grocery page within walking distance but being the fussy buggeri am I drive further afield quite often!
Yeah sometimes it worth going a little further for any number of reasons - quality of food and/or price always plays a role.
I'm happy that your new town is conducive to walking cos I hate living anywhere that is not. However, I'm salivating your ice cream. There's only a small coffee shop that serves basic ice cream in the town where I live, and unfortunately, I walked to town a few days ago, only to be told that he stopped serving ice cream for the rest of the winter season. I ended up buying a homemade banana shake that was lovely, but I like to eat ice cream all year round.
Hmm, your ice cream scoops look similar to the size that we get in Jamaica. It's nothing like a European portion.
You love the flavours that I wouldn't taste unless there wasn't any other one.
Since pink is a delicate colour, I think it should be on the top. In terms of taste, maybe the fruity taste before the chocolate, as well. It's hard for me to tell because it's rum and raisin and pistachio for me. Ideally, I'd probably prefer to have the pistachio at the bottom and the white/cream rum and raisin on the top, appearance-wise. However, I would like to end with my favourite taste which is rum and raisin so I would prefer it to be at the bottom. Another thing is that rum and raisin tend to be on the softer side, so a server is more inclined to place it at the top so that I would eat it before it melts.
Yeah portions in north America tend to be much larger. One scoop here would be equivalent to two scoops in France lol.
Yeah there is a sort of science to what flavor goes where. Softer on top for sure. That makes sense. Sometimes sweet vs. salty plays a role as well.

Your ice cream photos are very tempting, and surely no one will be able to resist them, especially on a sunny day, right?
Do you always look for ice cream every time you visit a city?
That's right. Definitely! 😆
Pretty much always yes 😂
Geez! These ice creams look so inviting. I almost tripped into my phone. And talking about the look of the new place, it is so filled with nature that it got me giggling.
You guys rock, and your dog is cute. Though I didn't like that, they charged you guys for that, but the dog was happy, which was all that matters.
Yeah it seemed cheeky to offer ice cream and then charge us in the end. Lol. Dog was happy though
That's the real deal.
What a fun post… sooooo many ice creams 🍦 it is not a shit post btw 😉😎
I would go with chocolate 🍫 underneath the cherry 🍒
Good the area you live in now is walkable. So many places are not.
Have a lovely day 👋🏻
Yeah chocolate under cherry seems right to me as well. I just let them decide usually, but prefer it that way.
As long as one gets their choices… it doesn’t really matter 😉😁
Have a good evening 😴
Very true indeed
Looks a beautiful area and great that it is walker friendly
but that ice cream looks so good now I am craving to have an icecream LOL
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Yeah some of the photos make the ice cream look really good. I wish I would have taken the pictures as soon as I bought it, instead of waiting. But alas...
LOL I know I remember many times just about to finish an icecream and thinking i should have taken a photo of it
Nearly all of the meals I eat at restaurants go that way. I rarely take photos in a restaurant but almost always wish that I had.
👍🙂👍
I am thinking...you two are serious ice cream eaters!!!!!
You would be right ✅️ 😏
😂😂😂
Chocolate....no, cherry.....no, chocolate.....ummmm....
Haha yeah exactly 💯 🤣
I think the new town has so many places where you can take a walk
The area looks beautiful
I enjoyed the view here
Yeah it's a nice town in most locations. We quite like it
The walks are very nice bit I couldn't keep my eyes out of the ice cream 😋😋😋
😁🍦
Going for a walk and having ice cream sounds like a perfect plan for me, I liked seeing your walks, and the ice cream being the main focus in the pictures is something different and funny 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
A little town with such view? Sign me up!! These look tasty and I want some because why not? The cookie dough flavour is shaped like a little bunny without ears or maybe it's just my eyes. Beautiful ppst, thanks for sharing
A bunny without ears 😆
I don't see it but that's funny
😄😁
Thanks!
Living in small Town is quit satisfying and calm and it looks incredible in your photos. I really like these type of towns where you can live and enjoy your life with peace.
Yeah it's a nice town. We are happy here
Well, I can only concentrate on seeing your ice cream photos jaja. How delicious they all look, I think I could eat them all in one day! jeje
You may have to go out and buy some ice cream now!
Jaja Yesss 🍧🍨
😁👍
I am salivating already. Wish I could get some now. But unfortunately, we are in the rainy season and everywhere is very cold.
I love serene environments like this actually.
Yeah ice cream isn't as good them it's cold out. Best to wait for warm weather
