Relentless snow. We got another large dumping of it last Thursday and then it poured down on us all day Saturday and Sunday and a little into Monday as well. Steady and continuous. It was a long weekend so we stayed home for three days but all of the shoveling we had to do definitely felt like going to work.
There was maybe 10cm of snow left over from our previous storm and this time around we got another 30-40cm.
You can see from the yard stick that there was 49cm in total.
We shoveled the driveway three times over two days trying to keep up with it. It's easier to shovel multiple times then it is to wait until it's finished and do it all at once. Even trying to keep up with it, the last day still nearly killed us.
It was much denser that time and much heavier. I'm writing this in Monday now and we actually still have to do it one more time to clear that last few cm that fell last night and today, plus we have to dig out the end of the driveway where the snow plow pushed everything from the road back into our lane way.
Don't worry, my wife wasn't shoveling on her own. I was helping and actually did quite a bit more of the driveway. I just stopped for a moment to take the photos. I had to shovel off my balcony as well and we have been shoveling a patch in the backyard so the dog can do his business.
Snow is a lot of work but it sure is pretty. We got our winter gear on and decided to take the dog out for a walk. He doesn't do well in the snow anymore.
His feet get too cold and last time we tried he started yelping like a madman so we haven't tried since. We tried putting boots on his feet at one point but they didn't work for us. He just refused to walk at all that day. The solution is to bundle him up in his coat and put him in his backpack. He gets fresh air and it's something different for him to do and his feet don't hurt from the cold. It's a win win situation I supposed. He even seems to enjoy it by the look on his face. Maybe not based on this photo, but often when I look over at him he looks happy enough.
The street we live on and the surrounding neighborhoods aren't a priority for the plows so the roads were still covered in deep snow when we went out. Walking in snow is kind of like walking in sand on the beach.
You sink and slip and lose a bit of traction so its far more tiring than usual. It didn't help that we exhausted ourselves shoveling the driveway before leaving.
We did our usual 20-ish minute walk around the neighborhood and then headed home, very tired.
Like I said, I am writing this on Monday and it has finally stopped snowing. The plow just went by and I see that our driveway is blocked again. I better gear up for round four of shoveling. So until next time, thanks for reading.
Greetings @leaky20
What a splendid post....enjoyed looking at your snowy photographs and tall trees...just lovely.
Thank you for taking us on a stroll today....Enjoyed immensely!
Kind Regards to you and your good wife.

Yeah the snow was very pretty, great for photos but not so much for shoveling or walking in 😂
Boy, I don't know how I'd cope with all this snow, but something tells me that it's more pleasant to wake up to all white than grey, dark, wet days. You two seem to have so much fun doing this (despite it being hard work) and I think it makes it so much more fun:)
Maybe one day I'll experience a Canadian winter (and a Canadian summer) because I've heard that the summer can be also extreme.
Hehe, your dog under his hoodie is so cute 😊
There are certainly pros and cons to all of the snow. Wet and grey is dreary and snow can be very pretty. But there is extreme cold, bad driving conditions and lots of shoveling that goes with it. Take the good with the bad I suppose. I would like winter if it was shorter I think. 2 months would be ideal. 4-5 months is too much for me.
Summers can be extreme in Ontario because the Great Lakes create a lot of humidity. It can be unbearable at times.
WOW all the shovelling must have bene a heck off a workout or should i say work outs
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day
It was a ton of work indeed. So much shoveling. Walking in the snow was difficult as well.
Ohh I can only imagine, I shouldnt complain about the snow and shoveling i have done here seems nothing compared to what you have had to deal with
It's been an especially bad year for snow. We don't normally get this much anymore but every few years we get a lot
Oh my how cute your dog looks in the backpack. Glad you found a solution for the dog to get outside, it looks like you don't need any additional exercise with that large drive to shovel! Beautiful.
Yeah the driveway was a major workout. It's not bad when the snow is light and fluffy but when it's heavy... it's a lot.
OMG, that's a lot of snow to shovel, it can be very exhausting. I would not be able to do any walk after that. Haha, but the face of your dog is priceless in this photo too, I bet he enjoyed being wrapped and carried in the backpack indeed 😇
Yeah shoveling before hand made it a lot more challenging to walk, thats for sure. Even more so for my wife carrying the dog lol.
Wow, that’s a serious snowfall! I bet everything looks so beautiful and fresh now.😀
It was very pretty when the snow was fresh on the ground and in the trees
