While browsing on Facebook, I saw a post about Intramuros or Old Manila The place was known as a landmark during the Spanish era. Others might wonder, I am from the Philippines, but why am I talking about Spain?
Fact: During colonization, the Philippines was colonized by Spain through the explorer Ferdinand Magellan who was the one who discovered our country. The ruling lasted from 1565 to 1898, yes! 333 long years.
The place I am talking about plays an important place in our history. One of the oldest cities in Manila, founded by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. The whole area was surrounded by thick and high muralla (walls). Also, there were a lot of structures and building that was inspired by Spanish architecture. Source
It felt like love, at first sight, the moment I glanced at the photos from someone's post, which happened to pass in my reels. Me knowing me, I wouldn't feel peace not until I visited the place. Sadly, no one from my office friends wanted to go with me for one reason! It was summer already, and they didn't want to walk outside. Well, not a problem, I can manage myself! @jane1289, inspires me! So, brace yourself and walk with me to glimpse some parts of Philippine history!
The first one that I noticed when I was near the area was this;
The lamppost looks different than the one usually seen in the city: steel and bulb. What was found at the side of the road were decorative ones. The buildings, even the fast food that I used to eat, have you seen Jollibee?
I am closed off saying to the e-bike driver, can you stop? I wanted to get down and start to wander! However, it was my first to visit this place, so I restrained myself and felt content taking some photos and videos.
And finally, we arrived, and the first one you will see is the office of the Philippines Bureau of Treasury.
What is interesting, then, aside from the structure?
Have you spotted the carriage? If not, here it is!
Trivia: The whole area was 67,0000 square meters, and if you wanted to have a tour, you might ride in this carriage for $18.34! Expensive? Don't you worry, it was a maximum of six passengers, so if you had companions, you can divide the total amount.
Just a few walk away, you can find the Manila Cathedral one of the famous churches in Manila. It was originally built in 1571 but was unable to survive the strong earthquake on June 3, 1863. Thus, it was restored. Source
Many choose to tie a knot here, not only normal individuals but even prominent people.
On the right side, you can find the Palacios de Governador.
And at the center, the monument of Charles IV of Spain.
We are just starting, as you will see more wonderful structures.
I was thankful for my phone as it was a great help in navigating aside from the following number of people. LOL. They will likely be going into the tourist spots in this place, too, so why not follow them?
After walking, and made me regret that I didn't bring an umbrella I was brought in here. A great place to fill your growling stomach just in case you are hungry after wandering around.
La Cathedral Cafe says this is one of the famous cafes here with affordable prices.
Cafe Intramuros - immerse.reminisce.experience as their tags say.
Barbara's Kitchen - is a restaurant and the same time museum that serves Filipino cuisine. At the entrance, you will see the Security guard dressed like katipunero. As a start, maybe you wanted to try Sorbetes?
And after a wonderful meal, a carriage is waiting at you, and the Cochero just command him where to.
Between these restaurants, you will find an instragramable spot that gives a Vigan vibes (one of the tourist spots here).
As much as I wanted to have a pose here, I was shy to approach anyone as it seemed everyone was so busy taking photos. So, I just decided to walk around and found a perfect spot!
Throughout my journey in this vast historical place, these are my photos.
To a stranger who took this photo, he did a great job; I look slimmer here! I hope so in real life too!
We are only on half of the place, but it would be too long to continue. So, see you on the next blog.
Hello, fellow Hivians; Happy Wednesday for this week here is my entry in @tattoodjay Wednesday walk in collaboration with @elizacheng in make me smile. I hope I made you 😊.

I am so glad they have not knocked the buildings down, it seems people want everything new and crap, yet the old stuff is what lasts, although it is commonplace that age of building here.

Amazing how I wish I had the chance to visit this place when I was in Manila kaso kinapos sa oras. I enjoy this virtual tour then. Thank you so much for sharing this one. Stay safe and God bless.
Wow, it's like a walk down memory lane. I haven't been to Intramuros myself but the next time I go to Manila, I'll make sure to drop by and take a visit.
Love the architecture and how well preserve the place is. We have a similar Fort here in Cebu that was also during the spanish period, it's one of the oldest one in the Philippines - Fort San Pedro.
It's really amaze me seeing historical places and artifacts. We really have a rich history.
Wow, Filipina realmente es muy bella, me lleva a los pueblos de las películas, me encanta. 😻
Hehe, I couldn't understand Spanish but thanks for dropping by!
