[ENG] Visiting Gothic art

Before getting into the topic, I would like to give you a cordial greeting full of peace and love with the fraternity typical of the December season.

Last Saturday, the 28th of this month, my wife, my grandson and I took a walk through the center of Caracas, a sacred moment that we took advantage of to enter the Basilica Menor Santa Capilla located on the corner of the same name, on Urdaneta Avenue 1010, Cathedral Parish, Libertador Municipality, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

As an informative summary, I was able to research the following:

1.- Its construction dates back to 1883 and the person in charge was the Venezuelan architect Juan Hurtado Manrique, appointed by the then President of the Republic General Antonio Guzmán Blanco. By the way, this architect was director of buildings and ornamentation of towns in 1883, minister of Public Works in the years of 1886 and 1894, as I was able to read in his Biography

2.- The architect Luis Castillo, in the 1910s, built two additional naves and the new central portico.

3.- On August 5, 1926, Pope Pius XI declared it a Minor Basilica belonging to the Archdiocese of Caracas.

4.- Due to the earthquake that occurred on July 29, 1967, its physical structure was severely affected.

5.- This Catholic temple was declared a National Historic Monument on February 16, 1979.

Returning to the initial reading, I mentioned that I went out with my wife and grandson to walk through the historic center of our capital city, but upon seeing the majesty of the Basilica we could not help but go inside to appreciate the beauty of each detail of the neo-Gothic art up close; my grandson, Matteo, five years old, was shocked and even sad because he could not understand the evil of those who crucified Jesus Christ.

In addition to the extraordinary finishes of the ceilings and columns, I was struck by the paintings, images and stained glass windows, as they are artistic pieces of great value and beauty worthy of admiration.

[ESP] Visitando el arte gótico

_{[ESP] Arte Neogótico. Mi esposa y mi nieto saliendo de la Basílica Menor Santa Capilla de Caracas}

Antes de entrar en materia, deseo darles un saludo cordial lleno de paz y amor con la fraternidad propia de la época decembrina.

El pasado sábado 28 del corriente mi esposa, mi nieto y yo dimos un paseo por el centro de Caracas, momento sagrado que aprovechamos para entrar en la Basílica Menor Santa Capilla ubicada en la esquina homónima, en la avenida Urdaneta 1010, Parroquia Catedral, Municipio Libertador, República Bolivariana de Venezuela.

Cómo resumen informativo pude investigar lo siguiente:

1.- Su construcción data de 1883 y el encargado fue el Arquitecto venezolano Juan Hurtado Manrique, designado por el entonces Presidente de la República General Antonio Guzmán Blanco. Por cierto, ese arquitecto fue director de edificios y ornato de poblaciones en 1883, ministro de Obras Públicas en los años de 1886 y de 1894, según pude leer en su Biografía

2.- El Arquitecto Luis Castillo, en la década de 1910, le construyó dos naves adicionales y el nuevo pórtico central.

3.- El 5 de agosto de 1926 el Papa Pio XI la declaró Basílica Menor perteneciente a la Arquidiócesis de Caracas.

4.- A causa del terremoto ocurrido el 29 de julio de 1967 su estructura física fue severamente afectada.

5.- Este templo católico fue declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional el 16 de febrero de 1979.

Volviendo a la lectura inicial les mencioné que salí con mi esposa y mi nieto a pasear por el casco histórico de nuestra ciudad capital, pero al ver la majestuosidad de la Basílica no pudimos evitar entrar para apreciar de cerca la belleza de cada detalle del arte neogótico; mi nieto, Matteo, de cinco años de edad, quedó impactado y hasta triste porque no pudo entender la maldad de los que crucificaron a Jesucristo.

Además de los extraordinarios acabados de los techos y las columnas, me impactaron los cuadros, las imágenes y los vitrales ya que son piezas artísticas de gran valor y belleza dignas de admirar.
