When I was small, I learned the word hibiscus from my grandmother. I had no idea what that plant or flower looked like back in time, but I already knew the word well.
We loved spending weekends at her place, because you know how it is when you are a guest - you are allowed to do almost anything, even have peppermint candies before you fall asleep, and you don't have to get out of bed to brush your teeth again! It is interesting how I remember that, as a special treat, when in fact it was just one candy. That grandma loved hibiscus tea, a so bright red and sour beverage to my taste - a complete contrast to that sweet peppermint candy I liked. Even though she would put sugar in her hibiscus tea, it still tasted sour to me, so it was only after many years that I came to like the taste. Probably, I was remembering my grandmother and the weekends spent at her house again when I started drinking that flavoured tea.

Maybe these flowers also reminded me of her. This is a walk among the hibiscus bushes in the botanical garden in Malaga. You already know this place well from my posts, however, there are still parts of this large park that I can introduce to you. Hibiscus flowers come this time.
I don't know how much you know about this plant and whether you have used it because of its medicinal properties or as a tea. If you would like to find out what they look like, you can join me today in this Wednesday Walk. 🌺

The path in this part of the botanical garden is surrounded by hibiscus bushes, pruned as little trees actually. They were pretty and in different colours, with single or double flowers. The most difficult was to take a photo of the red ones as somehow they always turned out more like pink flowers. The white or yellow ones were my favourites.

As I saw on the information panel, this plant originates from tropical Asia, but it seems to also thrive in other areas with tropical or temperate climates. I used to see hibiscus shrubs and their beautiful flowers at our old place, but not as many or as colorful as here in Malaga, in the botanical garden.

Pink or red - who would know anymore!? 😂

Some of the flowers were posing in the direct sunlight, proud of their gracefulness.

We also met some half-hidden flowers in the shade of the leaves.

My favourite among all of them was this white hibiscus flower.

The path among hibiscus trees was quite long, so I stopped taking more photos as they would all look alike anyway. Still, I hope you also got an idea and this hibiscus vibe through this short walk. Maybe you will fancy a cup of hibiscus tea now? 😉🌺

What a lovely walk and memories. Thank you!
Thank you Sara, a walk in a botanical garden or among flowers is always nice 😇🌺
The moment when looking at a flower reminds you of the beautiful and happy days of youth and childhood - Priceless.
Like you, I like hibiscus tea because the sour taste, but I won't be drinking it today. I'm thinking about drinking a bottle of beer with lunch 😁
I hope you had that beer yesterday :D
But today maybe a cup of tea can come... I heard you collect some teabags 😁
I loved your story, like you I always enjoyed those weekend visits to my great aunt's house.
As a curious fact, I tell you that in my country Venezuela, we call the hibiscus Cayenne and the infusion of the red ones, which are the most common, are used to relax and sleep better.😉
The weekends at our grandmas/aunts were always great, right? Reading the comments on this post I see that this plant has many names, among them Cayenne indeed
Hi @mipiano, besides having found the name of a plant I have sometimes come across and didn't know what it was called. I loved that reference to your grandmother, and that hibiscus tea.
Best regards.
Good afternoon @mipiano. Thank you very much for being so understanding... we left it at there were many curves.... 😁
Best regards.
This time, it was me who took the road with curves so it took me time to arrive here to respond to the comments 😅 (contraseña - días de trabajo jajaja)
🌺
Esa contraseña me suena 🤣 🤗
These flowers have an effect of going back to the past in me, they have so much information from my childhood that makes me love them.
Time-travelling with hibiscus flowers - isn't it great? :)
In fact I have one of these in my house, Rosa China we call it and I have already put together a post to present it next week, coincidence? I don't think so 👀 haha now, I didn't know that it had medicinal properties 😲 no wonder the turtle in my house devoured them and instead of walking slowly like a normal turtle, it ran like a jaguar 😂
Hahaha, a jaguar turtle, like Speedy Gonzales? 😂 You have many nice plants and flowers @elbuhito, you have good little helpers like Buhito en Bizcochito so they bloom and grow nicely! 🌺
They know how to take care of plants, despite being demonized, they manage to take good care of them haha 😂🦉🐧
That turtle was Speedy Turtlales in fact 😂 hahahaha
I know that beautiful road, those flowers so beautiful and bright in their colours and I could travel with you to that place, I hope soon to go, I have been with too many things but I miss it. Thank you!!!🤗
You will go there again when you can ;) I hope soon. I imagine these hibiscus trees bloom all over the year
And don't doubt that I will remember this and take pictures!
And so you are Miss Hibiscus? hahahahaha....
You mean like an instant tea? I put my hand into a cup of water which later becomes hibiscus tea?
Boiling water? Nooo 🤐
I recently went to a place where I found it in white, pink and the traditional red, it was a whole garden in the heights, in fact I think I shared it in this same community, and yes it is a very beautiful flower, I have always appreciated it, but I did not know about its medicinal properties, so it is good to have coincided with your post hahaha. I love you very much my friend ❤️
Yes, I saw this flower in one of your posts. Maybe I would not know either, but I was lucky to have that grandma 😇 Gracias Jes :))
They are abundant in Cuba, only we know it as Pacific sea or China rose and we use it as a tea to relieve cough. And as there we have many colors. Very nice walk @mipiano and even more if seeing those flowers you remember your grandmother. A hug 😘🤗❤️
I see this flower has many different names, but one is the same - how nice it is and tasty and good as tea! :))
Thank you Mamani, a hug to you too 🤗
What a nice memory of your grandmother and what a nice place to remember her. Hibiscus plants with their perennial and multicolored flowers abound in Cuba, only here we call them Marpacífico. I have eaten its flowers sautéed with other vegetables but I have never drunk it as a tea. Lindo paseo Mipiano, gracias por él. Un abrazo 🤗.
Wow, how many different names for the same plant! Marpacífico - me gusta así su nombre :) Gracias @mdrguez 😇

A wonderful touching story
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Warm greetings, I would love to sit on that bench to write poetry. Beautiful flowers, quiet surrounded by that nice landscape. The flowers are beautiful, here we call it marpasífico and they are also plentiful. There are some smaller ones that do not open much and they are called pasiflora and are very good for making tea, they have anxiolytic properties so they relax and make you sleepy. Thanks for sharing.
I am sure you would enjoy the shade on one of those benches and write excellent tenths as you always do ;)
The Hibiscus tree always reminds me of my own username. When I first chose this username 5-6 years ago, someone on discord couldn't say my username and called me hibiscus and I had a good laugh XD
Btw so good flower photos 👍
Hahaha, I think I will remember this 😂 they mixed up incublus with hibiscus? 😂
Thank you 😇
Yeah right. They sound similar 😅
Here in the Philippines, we call it Gumamela 😊 Funny how hibiscus also reminds me of my grandma. She has a garden filled with gumamela in different colors. The red and pink ones are pretty common but I get excited whenever I the white ones bloom! They’re also my favorite! I used to pick one and give it to her every time 😂
Giving flowers to our grandmothers shows care and love. I am glad you are familiar with these flowers and that it also reminds your of your grandma :)
This is such a heartwarming story! The way you describe your grandmother and those weekends is beautiful. It reminds me of the simple joys and strong family bonds we often cherish most.
