It’s Wednesday, and as we know it’s the day for our traditional #WednesdayWalk! Although this walk did not happen on a Wednesday, it was a Sunday morning. Autumn is slowly arriving in Spain, and we can feel that during the night the temperatures are colder. However, during the day it is nice and sunny, as was the case that day too which is shown through these photos.
That Sunday morning we had an idea to take a longer walk, not just to the harbour. We wanted to do a longer route, until the river but at the seashore with met a very good friend and we were chatting for a long time. The decision came naturally then, that the walk will be shorter, just to the harbour which is about 30 minutes away from our place.
It is located in Altea, Spain, a small but picturesque place with an old part with white old Mediterranean kind of houses. That old nucleus is surrounded by new parts of the town, providing a rich cultural life for the residents of Altea. Sports centers, concert and theatre hall, schools, music conservatory, university of arts, all kinds of artisanal shops, and small businesses. Also hotels, hostels, restaurants, bars, several beaches, supermarkets, open street markets, and other services that are here because of tourism.
Once upon a time, when tourism was not the principal activity of Altea, and other coastal towns, people lived from agriculture and fishing. There are still fields in the interior and orange, olive, and almonds plantations. But the most obvious activity that we can still see nowadays was fishing. There are several harbours in Altea, although the other ones are smaller and serve just as recreational ones. In this harbour still twice a day big fishing boats are coming with freshly caught fish.
In order to keep the fish fresh, in one of the hangars in the port, the ice factory makes a larger amount of ice available to fishermen. Later, the fish is sold to smaller fishing shops and markets, for further distribution. Of course, as I have already mentioned, fishing is no longer the main activity that brings wealth to the city, but it is still maintained.
Once tourism took place as the main activity to maintain the town, the harbours ( apart from still providing a place for the fishermen and their boats) mainly give a home just to small boats and yachts. During the weekend, many boat owners come and go to the sea to enjoy the sun and the infinite horizon of the blue sea. Just, one has to be used to sea waves, if not, sickness can ruin the experience. Why do I say this? I will leave the conclusion to you...
Looks like a beautiful day and a great place for walking I am glad fishing still remains active even if not the main commercial activity anymore
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
The day was beautiful, indeed. Fishing still remains, luckily, not the driving commercial force, but that at least we have a very wide range of fresh fish in the market. This is one of the features I really like here, living by the sea ;)
That’s great you have plenty of fresh fish available
Where I now live is one of the busiest commercial fishing ports in the country
That is cool , so pleanty of seafood at your place too!! 👌
Yes indeed
I love walks by the harbor. You can get such great photos of boats, as you demonstrated here in your post. Well done. Awesome photos.
Hey @leaky20 , thank you for your nice words. Haven't noticed your post before, just now, how cool is that German place, a great post you made there!! 🍻
The harbour scenery is nice. This is not a big one, there are two more harbours in Altea where the next level of yachts can be found ;) These are just the local people's small boats here...
Sounds like the other harbor is a place you go to dream lol. It's like:
"One day Hive will be worth $100 and ill own one of these yachts."
Dream big 🤣
haha, I can dream big, but the yacht thing would not be our cup of tea... Husb and son are getting sick from sea waves ;) but for me, a small one, why not ;D?

Hey, thank you @ezmilly2 for stopping by, and sorry for this delayed response. Yes, it was a calm and peaceful Sunday morning. I hope too you can have a similar place to visit sometimes! Greetings and welcome to Hive!!
Immeasurably lovely. What a gorgeous view. And the way you kept the lake off centre and the way you caught the shadows and the colours... Brilliant.
thank you ;)) and , well, it was not a lake, it is the Mediterranean sea ;) But in the photos, it definitely doesn't look like an open sea, as it was in the harbor so hence the calm water.
Great walk!
Thanks dear ;)

woow woow so you speak Spanish? i'm confused! You know spanish? in the publication it says that it is in spain, what a nice port, I got very excited reading this... one of my dreams is to have a house in spain I think it has many beautiful areas, so I want to remove my doubts haha you publish your writings in english but you live in spain? how I would like to be in that place and take pictures? Here in my country sometimes it is very frustrating, it is not the same as before, before you could enjoy certain places and although Venezuela has very beautiful places, the government that is currently in charge has let the country deteriorate and it is very unfortunate, so I have come to consider leaving here and Spain would be one of the desired places to live, I tried to understand all the writing only reading in English but in some parts I had to translate, I am glad that the tradition of fishing can still exist in that place and that tourism helps the city, but it is nice when a custom is not completely lost, so I find it very nice that this port remains in force and even with the activity of fishing and what a nice gesture make ice companies to keep the fish fresh, greetings @mipiano, please clarify my doubts. ...
Hey @jaredkhamanah
Sorry for coming a bit late to clarify your doubts. Hahhah, yes, I live in Spain, and if I remember well, maybe sometimes we also "talked" through the comments in Spanish, but yes, mostly I write in English. The posts I always write just in English... The reason, well although I live here, in Spain, it is not my native language, I learned it when I came to live here, but I am more comfortable with EN for hive. When making some comment in Hive OPen MIc and when I know that the user doesn't speak English, then I write just in español. Pero Spanglish también podemos utilizar jajja. Solo una broma.
I hope you can achieve one day your dream, as this place is beautiful to live indeed, but please don't think that everything here is perfect hahaha.
happy Caturday, kitty 😇
