A walk in the woods sounds wonderful. Doing this in the summer, on Florida, changes the equation a little bit. It is still possible, of course. The first concern is the heat and humidity. Bringing plenty of water is key.
Another option is to go early in the morning or late evening. These hours will have an abundance of mosquitoes and sandflies looking for a snack so bug spray is essential. I choose to make my own to avoid the chemicals in the store bought priducts. My favorite recipe is quite simple. Mix 24 drops of geranium essential oil, 24 drops of patchouli essential oil, and 4 ounces of distilled water in a spray bottle and you’re good to go.
It rained earlier today and the woods were relatively quiet. There were cicadas buzzing and a few birds chirping. We did hear a larger animal rustling around in the thick brush but could not see what it was. There was evidence of boars in the area as a lot of the ground had been rooted. There was also a river on the edge of the trail so gators could also be moving about.
The trail here is a 3.3 mile loop with some side trails that take you to the river. There is construction happening alobg rhe road so part of the trail was closed. The backtracking proved fortunate, however, as we saw this amazing turtle on part of the path we would have missed.
We noticed another turtle burrow near the entrance. If you look closely you can see this beauty sleeping in its hole.
I hope you enjoyed my first post into the Wednesday Walk community. I am grateful you are here and excited to participate each week and share enthusiasm for getting out and going for a walk.
I love everything that is green!
I barely saw the turtle at the end! Haha great photos.
Thank you. I saw about 10 burrows and was surprised to see that turtle sleeping in one. Hoped to get a better photo.
Hello @nebraskadean! To see turtles along your walk, I would be really happy and probably talk to them. 😆 I think your little adventure was great and being with nature is just the best feeling in the world.
Anyways, may I ask though how you got to know Hive or who introduced you here? You didn't mentioned in your introduction blog. The reason why we ask this is we want to make sure that identities are not stolen, abuse and scammers are prevented.
Hi @indayclara! It's funny you mention that because I do talk to them. I actually named that one Frank 🐢. I added how I heard about Hive in my intro, thank you for that pointer.
Nice shots of a lovely place!
Thank you. There is a lot of beauty around here.
Walking in the forest is very steady and very cool, there are turtles that look good
It certainly is. We saw another turtle earlier in the walk that was in such a hurry that I didn't have the time to pull out my camera, lol. I had never seen one move as fast as that one.
