I heard about @worldmappin's #winterchallenge, but this one will not be eligible for additional points as it will not be about winter... 😃 Despite living in a "mild climate" country, evenings and mornings can be cold... In my today's afternoon walk, the sun went behind the clouds and it wasn't so pleasant, especially as I put on my "summer clothes"... lol... So, to warm myself up, I searched in my photo collection for some nice summer walks to share today... 😃
The date is July, 26th, 2023, and we are somewhere in Lombardy, Italy... You can even see the town name, Sirmione, which is a huge attraction because of its location... It became famous because of the lake, Lago di Garda, which was our destination last summer, on our way back home... As you will see a lot of unusual photos for me in this one, I need to make an introduction to it...
Two weeks before that trip, there was some crazy weather in that part of Europe, and I had an unpleasant surprise when I was caught in the streets during the hailstorm, for which I created a post last year! Maybe a few days after that, even stronger hailstorm hit exactly the area around the Lago di Garda, from where you can follow these photos...
So, in this post (let's call it a teaser post), I will show you the streets of Sirmione on my way back from the Castello Scaligero di Sirmione that we visited... As parking space closer to the castle is very limited, we had to park far away... That was a great reason to enjoy the "ordinary" part of the town, which wasn't overcrowded with tourists...
Yes, I did a couple of photos of streets, and walking along so much greenery is always nice, compared to burned nature in Spain during the summer...
...and it's always nice to see these local shops that are selling typical products from that area... I don't know Italian, but that has to be wine... 😃 🍷
...when you see flowers by the sidewalk, then you know that the neighborhood is great and that they take care of the town...
What would be Italy without gelato? Pizza-only country? 😃
I found this terrace interesting as it was full of different things... I suppose that owners can't even go out and enjoy the view as there is no place to do it... lol...
As we were on the road back to Spain, these pinecones reminded me about our destination... Somehow, the pinecones that I found in Italy and France are usually much bigger than the ones that I found here in Spain... Not sure what's happening there... 😃
Oh, I forgot to explain why I did these weird car photos on my walk when I usually post nature-only photos... As I mentioned the hailstorm at the beginning, what you can see in these photos is a direct result of it! The ice cubes that were falling from the sky were so big that they damaged hundreds of cars (and some buildings too!)!
At the beginning, I thought that only "cheap" cars got damaged because of cheaper materials used in production, but you can see that it wasn't the case only for them... Windshields, headlights, rear lights, and even on the car hood you could see traces where ice cubes hit the cars (take a closer look above at the first few photos)...
As we were closing to the parking lot, we were getting closer to the lake too! There were no more houses and buildings and we had to go through a long park...
And in the end, some beautiful views of the Lago di Garda! Now when I see these photos, they remind me of Split, Croatia... The only difference is that it was a sea in Croatia, and this is "just" a lake... But it is a beautiful lake that you have to visit if you are going through that part of Italy!
I hope you enjoyed this #WednesdayWalk (it was indeed Wednesday when we took it!) and I hope I will not forget to share the rest of the photos that I have from this beautiful place where you will see the Castle, narrow streets of the old town, and more... Until the next one!
Thank you for your time,

Lovely photos. I have never been to Lake Garda but visit Italy each year and love it. Surprised that you had such weather as that sounds pretty unusual. We did get stuck in a scary storm once near Venice with such heavy rain and lightning cracking a tree near where we were staying. Spain definitely looks hotter than Italy, but its pretty hot in July / Aug, too much for me even.
We had that weather in Serbia 2 weeks before the trip, but luckily, we didn't have it on the road... As that would be awful... Like your experience near Venice!!!
I can't wait for your pictures from the fortified city on the coast, to remind myself 🙂
When we were in this area, we had an overnight stay in Treviso. I thought we would go around the city, however, the flood prevented us. I barely drove to the hotel and parked the car...
In those cities near the sea, the weather is nice, but when it starts to rain, it really rains...
I saw your post when I was searching the Worldmappin map for a code... :) We stayed in Treviso 2 or 3 times as it is almost exactly at 1/3 of our road trip and a perfect place to stay overnight... Close to the highway, relatively cheap, and close to places like Lago di Garda...
Luckily, I think that we didn't have bad weather in Italy ever... On the other hand, we had storms in Croatia and Slovenia multiple times...
I had almost 100 photos from that area and I had to split them... Hope I will not forget to do the next part... 😃
Great pictures. You've mastered the arts of this type of contents.
So the tapes on the cars, are they signs of damages or they're repairs done to the cars because of the damages of the snow?
Thanks!
That wasn't snow... It happened in the middle of the summer and it was a hail storm (ice cubes falling from the sky)... They were so big that when they would hit the car, they were destroying glasses...
As it happened just a few days before our visit, they didn't have time to repair them yet...
A hailstorm, oh goodness! I thought it was snow. Apparently it snows in December in many places of the world, so I thought this was something relating to that
😃 That's from the 2nd paragraph... 😃
Heavy rain, sleet or snow but hail is the worse. I remember buying two brand new cars over 20 years ago and seeing them take too much damage. Also had to replace roof on house. Darn hail! Even small hail can do something.
Oh, yeah... It can be ugly... And I remember changing a couple of roof tiles, but I never witnessed that much devastation as this time in Italy...
That certainly a different view with those damaged cars parked, the hailstorm must be big to make that kind of damaged.

I saw some hailstorms in my life, but I didn't see any being as devastating as this one... I'm scared to think how it would look like if we were caught there, in the car, during the storm! 😱
Lovely shots you have there! Lago di garda is really a cool place indeed and it is always so much bigger than you think when thinking about a lake.
The hail storms there are notorious and brutal. That is why I would never book something rhere up front because this mountain weather can always change so fast there. Just check the forecast and go!
(I was on a SUP there once with an incoming halsters.. no bueno hahah)
Yeah, I also have fears of booking a place where I want to spend time outdoors, and then it turns out to be crappy weather... Luckily, we weren't there when the hailstorm hit, but it was a sad image to see broken cars, windows, etc.
Uh-oh... No place to hide! 😨
The lake photos are nice! I can sit at such places for an afternoon and admire the scenery.

I imagined myself sitting on the shore, fishing... 😃
Hehe!

Once per year, I would go on a road trip from Spain, through France, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia, to the Balkans... During those trips, I would take a couple of photos when we take breaks... 😃
A peaceful and mind-blowing place without any doubt.
Very beautiful place... Wait to see the other part of this tour... You will be even more amazed... :)
It looks like a nice place to visit and relax. It doesn't even snow where I am at so I have no idea how bad the hail would be. It sounds like it would be annoying and the damage caused by it would be annoying too.
Hail storms usually happen when there are big differences in air temperatures... That can happen (and it usually happens) during the summer... and they aren't fun at all...
I could sit on the shore of that lake for hours... beautiful views!
I have to admit that I prefer lakes over the sea... It's so calm... and Lago di Garda has some spectacular views... 😍
looks like such a beautiful area
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk
It is a beautiful area for sure! For a picnic by the lake, or a long walk! Unfortunately, we didn't have time to stay for more days...
maybe you can revisit there some time inthe future
Oh man I remember that damn ice rain, I live in the same region, every car that was outside got something damaged, after that people where scared and everytime sky got dark everyone ran to seek cover the next months
It broke even one of our car's glass
Huh... Sorry to hear that your carglass got broken too!
We weren't in Italy when it was (ice) raining, but it was ice when we were too... Except the ice cubes weren't that big and luckily, our car was in the garage!
