My #wednesdsaywalk share, as inspired by @tattoodjay. This adventure was found near the local mystical spot known as Trempealeau Mountain.

The "mountain" isn't really mountain. It's only 600 feet in heighth. Yet the mountain has quite a bit of history, Years ago, there was a French trading fort at the base of the hill. The mountain is also covered with Native American burials and mounds...the whole area hints of something very old and majestic in this area.

History isnt the only thing found in this vicinity. There is a rumoured Mothman type creature that has been spotted in this area. Cave art, so 15 miles away or so, features this mountain with thunderbirds above it. I don't know what to believe of course; I will say that my daughter's best friend's father grew up in this area and told me he indeed saw a Mothman. Hey, Hattie and I were looking...but no luck, of course!

As is typical in this area, there a plenty of limestone rocks and boulders to appreciate along the shorelines. We didn't climb anything, but someday, something tells me we will be more into bouldering in this area in the future.

Also a fun find: our first wildflowers to photograph in the area!

I think these are hepitca plants in early bloom. From the research I was able to do, I think these flowers are native to the area...what a refreshing find, as most of the plants seem to be invasive species. What a good find to photograph...

Short and sweet, we will definitely be back to this area. There are some kayaks and canoes we plan to rent later this year to float out to the mountain. I'm excited to see the old trader ruins and mounds...and with some luck, the gold old Mothman!

Thanks for reading; as always, I hope everyone had a wonderful #wednesdaywalk too!

I am not sure if it is a good or bad thing you didnt see the Mothman LOL

Love the warm tones of these images and of course the wild flowers are so beautiful
it sounds such an interesting area to explore

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk, Sorry last week was a bit rough for me and I not only did not get out for any walks, but also was not able to visit all the walks from last week, but feeling better this week and visiting posts again which is always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Our 5 year old really wants to see it...I worry I've already gotten her too interested in High Strangeness already, lol - father of the year over here!

LOL thats not bad :)

Nice dude! Love a good walk along water like that and seeing an earth pimple, I mean hill lol. Great flowers and you’ll have to do a bit of bouldering! We actually signed up for an indoor rock climbing gym near us and it’s so much fun and great exercise for the little man and I. Will help him with his outdoor confidence doing bouldering like that, that’s for sure!

that is awesome! I want to get Hattie into something, but the closest climbing gym for us is in Rochester MN. We might have to do it the old fashioned way in the near future, but she does love climbing rocks in the area for sure!
