For this week's #wednesdaywalk adventure, as inspired by @tattoodjay , I returned to my favorite; the old man river himself, the Mississippi River.

Having run out time earlier in the day thanks to a nasty bout of food poisoning, I finally found the time on the drive home from work to get a walk in. So, I took the "proverbial" long way home and decided to walk down toward the river along a state trail.

What a beautiful afternoon! Despite being chilly with temperatures in the 40Fs, the sun was setting over the river. With the trees continuing to change colors, the afternoon was a perfect setting for a walk. Hey, it was a massive hike, but it was enough to remind me how important it is to take some time out for myself on days like today. It was also a reminder of how beautiful this area truly is.

The last time I was here, the weather was winter...January winter. What a change the seasons really make.

The best part about today's walk? It would have had to have been the fact that there was no one else on this trail this afternoon. I'm not sure why that would be the case as the afternoon was gorgeous. Maybe it was too close to dinner time, or the chill was a bit too much too soon for other 'sconnies. I guess I don't mind...I was happy to have it all to myself.

What a way to end the day!

Such an iconic sight. Beautiful.
I envy you for having it "on your way from work".

Thanks so much - we are lucky over here with the way the engineers designed this part of the river. Further south, the scenes get more commercial and robust.

Oh that's sad with the three day rule for wine.

When you say "Mississippi" I think of Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn :)

It is the area! Although he was more south than us, he did visit this area in the 1800's couresty of a steam boat...lots of history here!

What lovely fall colors! I see you live in Wisconsin, which explains the colorful trees. I used to live in Minnesota, and I miss the spectacular fall foliage. We have some here in Idaho, but it just isn't the same. I especially like your first and third photos. Nice job!

Oh yeah, Minnesota has quite the scenes too - thank you! We're on the border of Minn and Wisconsin in what is called the Driftless area, so lots of fun things to photograph year round! thanks for the kind words!

Cheers mate, nice pics of your ride on that day.

Looks like a beautiful walk man! Love it, the river is indeed beautiful. I've only seen it once but I hope to venture over there one day with the fam!

Indeed a big difference between January and now in an area like that lol. The weather here has been strange, we've had a bout of nice warm weather. The house got up to 75 today, even though it was only 65 today. It's refreshing! I wasn't sure if I wasn't feeling well or something, in that I'm usually temperature sensitive and enjoy the warm weather lol

Definitely head this way; I'll buy you a beer!

Yeah the weather is all over the place here too. Somedays are near 80F, then a few days later in the 30Fs...never a dull moment.
