An entry for the #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay.
For today's walk, I managed to get a few steps in an area outside of town known as a coulee. Coulees are low-ranging valleys and ravines; I always call them bluffs, but the proper term is coulee, apparently. It's always fun to learn something new on a #wednesdaywalk.
The area I wanted to check out had quite a bit of heavy mist/fog in the area. A warm front is currently pushing through the area and bringing mid 60Fs temperatures. The fog this morning was likely a result of the warm front, but the views in December were beautiful.
While walking along an old road, I walked up to an old, dilapidated barn. I didn't go inside of it as I wanted to respect the owners, but from what it appears, the barn still looked somewhat hospitable to whatever could live in it.
The December trees and farm fields looked almost ghostly, too, with the fog hanging in the foreground. The fog was even more intense on the drive-in, but as usual, bloody work got in the way of some good photography opportunities. You know how it is...the best images you see in your head seem to always be the ones where a) you don't have a camera or b) you don't have the time. It feels like I never have time...maybe the universe is telling me something?
The day has been most odd for December. There is energy in the air with the temperatures being so warm. There are intense wind warnings for 70 MPH gusts this evening, as well as expected thunderstorms and tornadoes in the Mississippi River Valley. Sounds like a good night to take a look at the photos from earlier today and have a beer or two n the couch!
Thanks for stopping by to take a look at my #wednesdaywalk. Hopefully, everyone else had a wonderful Wednesday too! Until next week...
Yay! 🤗

Funny I didn’t know that coulee was the name for it, though I do know the word. Learnt something today!
I love that barn! Man one day I would love to have a property with something like that on it, gorgeous!
Splinterlands will get us there! I think!! Or we can at least buy a virtual barn on a plot of land, lol
Awesome fog, I bet its the warm weather melting all the snow.
It literally knocked out about 4-6 inches of old snow today; pretty remarkable, honestly.
I'm loving your Wednesday Walks series! Wish I had a place like that nearby to tour and connect with nature. Loved the photo of the barn. Dilapidated buildings always seem so haunting yet so beautiful to me. They speak memories.
Thanks so much! I'm glad to know they are enjoyed - there are plenty of old Norweigian and German farming lands in the area, with tons of old barns. There are even round barns here and there from the old country. I really should try to get more photos to share...as you said, they are images filled with memories.
I have never heard the term Coulees before
The fog gives such a mystical feel
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Thanks ! - the area is very mystical, I think. I could almost spend a whole week on the back roads getting similar scenes
That’s awesome
