An entry for the #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay.

For this week's entry, I wanted to share a walk I was able to sneak in during yesterday's lunch. With the chaos at work, I knew that would be the day I could get a decent walk-in and take a few photos to share for this week's challenge.

It's an old hill of the town known as Indian Hill (I know, likely not politically correct). Years and years ago, this area housed a Winnebago Native American settlement; the area also included a number of Winnebago graves and effigies.

Unfortunately, all of that history has been lost. All of the earthworks are long gone, as well as the skeletons of those who were buried on this sacred site. I did a bit of research on the area a year ago and discovered that there was a push by none other than "Buffalo Bill" Cody, back in the late 19th century, to make this a national park/protected area. Of course, that didn't happen, and most of the hill was wiped out by early 20th-century sand mining, railroad development, housing, and industry.

Today, a large part of the hill is a city park. This area that I took a walk through, specifically, has been left to nature for the past 20 years or so. Most of the area now includes oak trees and vegetation.

I had to cut the walk short thanks to free pizza back at work, but this is another place I will definitely return to in the future. I'd like to do a bit more research on the area, and mix a bit of history with these walks in the future if possible. Just a thought, anyway!

That is it for this week's walk; I always like the walks through history. I hope everyone else had a wonderful Wednesday too, and until next week, enjoy the rest of the week.
