A sunny day in November is a gift! Especially since the temperature stayed confidently above zero on the street thermometer all day, and even at night. I took a bus to Suvorovsky Prospekt to walk a bit in the garden next to the Smolny Monastery.

Smolny Monastery - fully called the Resurrection Novodevichy Smolny Convent, it is a complex of buildings in classical style on the bank of the Neva River. The convent was founded on this place in the middle of the XVIII century. The central cathedral is the Resurrection Smolny Cathedral, it is surrounded by low buildings in white and blue colour scheme. These buildings housed the cells of the nuns and house churches.

The construction of the monastery complex was completed in the middle of the XIX century. According to the original project it was planned to build one more building. At the entrance to the monastery a very high bell tower was to be located. But later this part of the project was abandoned, partly because of insufficient funding, partly because of doubts about the justification of a disproportionately tall building. To this day, one can still sometimes hear voices in defence of the original project and the proposal to build a bell tower.

I walked around the monastery garden, then walked around the monastery courtyard a bit and walked around the Smolny Cathedral building. After that I decided to walk round the monastery quarter along the adjoining street and approach the monastery from the side of the Neva River. You can't go directly through the monastery grounds to the bank of the Neva River unless you are working in one of the old monastery buildings.

The Neva River embankment has a beautiful view of the Emperor Peter the Great Bridge, and I decided to end my walk this day by crossing this bridge. Another name for this bridge is Bolsheokhtinsky Bridge. This name has geographical roots, the bridge was built in the early 20th century to connect the central districts of the city and the historical settlement of Okhta.

He disfrutado también tu paseo, gracias, querida @tatdt. Saludos.😘
