Wednesday Walk on the harbor Walk
This post if for Wednesday walk challenge
Any questions about the challenge read the guide at the Bottom of the post ;)
For this weeks walk I am sharing a walk I took on the Hurricane Barrier wall a Walk called the Harbor walk.
Now I have done some posts from here before but often inthe early morning during the blue hour or sunrise, this one I took when the sun was up and more light so a bit different
The Walk way is on top of the wall you see in this first shot, you can see the fence on top of the wall

Let me tell you a little about it
The Harbor walk was Opened in 2015, and is 3,880 feet long and tops New Bedford’s hurricane barrier on the east side of the city’s southern peninsula.
The Hurricane barriers themselves are a lot older construction started in 1962 and were dedicated in 1966, from what I understand the hurricane barrier remains the largest manmade structure on the east coast of the United States and provides security for industries, the fishing fleet, and hundreds of homes in residential neighborhoods
It cost $1,000 a foot, is long enough to span the 3.5 mile width of New Bedford, is as high (and wider ) than The Great Wall of China, and has enough steel in it to build a Navy destroyer.
Its two huge steel navigational-sector gates weigh 400 tons apiece-each 35 tons heavier than the biggest locomotive ever built-and each as tall as a six-story house. When the gates swing shut at the touch of a button to lock out devastating storm tides, they create a pond inside the barrier which could cover 6,500 acres of land with a foot of water. They keep out much more of course.
there are entrances to go up on the walk way at each end, this is the one I took this day

Weekly giveaway of shares
This week I am sending to the following who joined Wednesday Walk, for this week I did a random draw and the following each received some Hive @friendlymoose, @desiredlady, @itwithsm, @ramrikrdo, #avdesing and @aquagelas
Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.
This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines
Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.
Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.
Try and get a few shots not just one
Add a bit of a write up about where you walked
Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week
You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss
Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .
Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.
I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules
I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Cost of structure to protect the towns in the region, staggering. Walking on the wall offers good views.
!LUV and have a great day, thanks for sharing.

Have a great day
Really safe wall to walk on... enjoy your day as well.
Wow, that is really interesting. What an engineering marvel! It kind of reminds me of the locks that we have in the northern part of our state for getting ships from Lake Huron to Superior and back. Even from the first picture I was going to guess those were wind turbines going up. We have quite a number of them around where I live. You should keep checking back, the process of putting them up is pretty fascinating. I have some photos I might be sharing tomorrow.
it is an amazing feat of engineering and yes thats my plan to try and pop by and see how the construction is going at least once a week
Awesome!
Such a beautiful walk @tattoodjay those turbines are awesome.
The so dominate the skyline.
The soft colours of the sky. Great captures. Thanks for sharing.
Today I show you a walk over a floating boardwalk, along the Shannon Blueway towards a lock and back.

Spectacular View 😍 Amazing memories that day !! 👌Great job and great photos, congrats!
Those are interesting facts you are sharing in this post about the harbor walk.
Everything looks so calm and fresh in your photos. It looks like you've had the perfect weather for this walk. It's almost hard to imagine the brutal power and chaos that goes with a hurricane when looking at these photos.
But reading through the information and all the precautions and engineering that went into this... It tells a story by itself about the power of a hurricane.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
yeah it was such a nice day not so much today thunderstorms rolling in now
I suppose we need to accept those stormy days too...that makes the sunny days even so much better😅!
