Wednesday summer walk though the Slovenian nature

Hi, dear Hive community,

For this #WednesdayWalk, we set off on a route unknown to Steffen. This always has its charm, as we explored probably all the most famous corners of the Soča Valley. So we must always be on the hunt for new ideas and more hidden corners.

We decided to do part of the Juliana trail - a hiking trail that takes you all over the Julian Alps. The trails lead along roads, small forest paths, meadows and sometimes to the big peaks of the Alps.

We started on a road, from where we have an hour later turned off onto a small and rather overgrown old macadam track. The path was quite steep at the beginning, but somewhere in the middle it descended into the next valley, where our destination was.

Along the way, we had a snack of wild strawberries, which are really plentiful this year. We didn't even worry about running out of water. The area is full of small streams and rivers coming from the hills. In some places, real pools were created, which were really photogenic.

It was also interesting to see many abandoned and half-decayed houses. These used to house animals - sheep, goats and cows. They are wrapped in mighty ivy, which makes them even more interesting. In the past, there were many more meadows and grazing areas, but with the increasing abandonment of agriculture, there are far fewer of these, and young forests are growing everywhere. We crossed one or two meadows, where we greeted sheep cooling off under the shade of the trees. It was indeed a real summer day with summer temperatures.

At the finish line, we were treated to a spectacular view of mountains, villages and forests. We took a couple of snacks with us and had a real little picnic. We enjoyed the meadow, where the only sounds were bees collecting pollen from the flowers. Not only that, but we had a little rest and, recharged with new energy, we returned the same way back home.
