My Wednesday walk today, is in the Bulgarian town Madzharovo, located on the banks of the Arda River in the Eastern Rhodopes.

To enter the city, you cross the bridge over the Arda River, which is a very beautiful and picturesque place.

The views from it are simply stunning:

Immediately after the bridge on the right is the Eastern Rhodopes Nature Conservation Center, which works to protect the nature of the Eastern Rhodopes.

Unfortunately when we visited the place it was closed and we couldn't see inside.

Continuing towards the city, you can see a memorial park with a chapel "St. Petka Bulgarska" and the ossuary monument "Thracian Pantheon".

It is not by chance that it is called the city of Vultures - the first thing you see upon entering Madzharovo is a huge graffiti called "The White Father".

The graffiti was painted by the artists 140 Ideas in 2015. and symbolizes the relationship between man and the Egyptian vulture.

Madzharovo is the second smallest town in Bulgaria after Melnik.

Before that, it had other names, but

in 1959, as a sign of gratitude to the great Thracian voivode Dimitar Madzharov, the settlement was renamed Madzharovo. It was declared a city in 1973, in connection with the 60th anniversary of the events near the Arda river.

In the center of the city there are monuments to Dimitar Madzharov and Rusi Slavov.
