Greetings Pilots!
It's been some days since our first Planetary Challenge concluded. We are still very grateful for all the excellent contributions you guys made to the challenge.
We learned a lot from hosting that first challenge and we wanted to make extra sure that our second installment is even more interesting and fun for our captains to take part in. After a lot of preparation, we are finally ready to present you our second Planetary Challenge: The Baldie Challenge!
Everything seemed to be so easy at first. You were on a routine mission in the Tauri System, tasked with the acquisition of additional colonization supplies for your colony ship - the Colombus. Suddenly, everything happened so very fast. It were mere minutes from reports of unknown ships entering the sector, to reports of open hostility, and finally to desperate pleads for help. You don't know where they came from, you don't know why they attacked, but what you do know is that the aliens obliterated most human colonies and space stations within a blink of an eye.
Yet, you were lucky. The first wave of alien attacks didn't target the remote space station that your Baldie Shuttle was docked at. Even better, the Colombus made it out of the onslaught alive as well. With their own destination just outside of your hyperdrive's reach, they transmitted coordinates of an unexplored star system within your engine's range.
Just when you started to upgrade your hyperdrive, the alien armada began their attack on Tauri as well. With only a few minutes to go, you scrambled what you could and made the jump to safety. With its small cargo hold and tiny crew, your Baldie made it to the other side of the universe. If everything goes well, the Colombus will pick you up in 90 days. Until then, you'll have to find a way to survive. With that in mind, you take a look at your options available for colonization.
There are several celestial bodies within the habitable zone of the star system: An Ocean world orbited by a moon and a large Asteroid, seemingly on the same orbit as the planet but on the opposite side of the system. You do a quick scan of each astronomical object and go over the findings:
The Ocean world seems to be almost entirely made up of water with only some tiny islands dotting the southern hemisphere. The planet seems to have a breathable nitrogen oxygen atmosphere and the average temperature seems to be at around 30°C at days, falling just below 10°C at night. With your Baldies simple scanners, you don't have any means of scanning the oceans for life but the islands seem to be uninhabited.
The moon is devoid of any atmosphere and its surface seems to be made up of rock entirely. From your first observation, temperatures fluctuate between -150°C and +100°C, depending on whether it's day or night. It does have some gravity, but only roughly 33% to what you are used to. Something is special about the moon though. On the northern pole, there are several partly destroyed buildings of alien design. Whoever built them seems to be long gone, but it seems like this moon was once home to a small alien outpost.
Finally, the asteroid seems to be in a stable orbit just across the system - something tells you that it's almost too perfect to be a natural occurrence. It's too small for an atmosphere or gravity but it seems to be made up of a mixture of rare metals and earths. As with the moon, the temperature varies heavily, although the same side of the asteroid seems to be facing the sun at all times. It is perforated with tunnels that may or may not be of natural origin. Because of its dense components, your sensors are only able to scan the outer layers of the asteroid.
Now Captain, let us know! What celestial body are you going to choose for your temporary colony? What Officers and Crew will you bring? What cargo will you use and what is your strategy for survival going to be?
Lets talk rules:
- In order to participate, you need to use the Baldie Shuttle
- Because of your situation, you are not allowed to drop any cards to your colony, you can only use what you bring with from Evacuation
- You must use the Launcher to build your deck and share it with us in your post
- You are free to add any additional illustrations to explain your build, though
- You have until post payout to enter your submission. To do so, you need to post a link to it below. Once you have done so, you may not make any changes to your contribution or post a second one
- Since Upgradable and Elite stats have not been implemented yet, all cards will be considered to be their base version
This challenge will be a little more complex than our first one. We have a number of events planned for each of the possible colonies and we will test your build against these events. Any colony that fails to beat the event will be eliminated from the competition until only one colony survives or one or more colonies survive until the end.
To make it more interesting for everybody, we'll have a series of daily posts where we follow the journey of each colony.
To reflect these changes, the potential prizes have changed as well. We are now working with prize tiers depending on the time your colony manages to survive. Your goal is to survive the whole 90 days until the Colombus is going to pick you up. Once the challenge concluded, we'll have a daily post covering another 15 days worth of colonization.
For every 15 days (which equals 1 day in the real world) your colony survives, you'll earn another reward.
- Survive 15 days => 1 random Common from @exoderewardspool
- Survive 30 days => 1 random Common from @exoderewardspool
- Survive 45 days => 1 random Rare from @exoderewardspool
- Survive 60 days => 1 random Epic from @exoderewardspool
- Survive 75 days => 1 Booster Pack
- Survive 90 days => 2 Booster Packs
These prizes are cumulative obviously, so if you make it to the end you can win a total of 2 Commons, 1 Rare, 1 Epic and 3 Booster Packs. Don't expect that to be easy, though. These events will be increasingly dangerous to your colony and only the best builds have a shot to make it to the end.
Those that do have a chance to earn additional rewards:
For each possible colony location we'll award 2 additional Booster Packs to the colony that made it the furthest or that finished the challenge with the least damage. On top of that, the most successful colony of them all will earn a truly legendary reward:
The colony that makes it the furthest or survives with the least amount of damage receives a Vanguard on top of all other rewards!
That's all we have on our second challenge, we are truly looking forward to see your ideas and strategies and to put all your colonies to the test! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us over in Discord and we'll be happy to help in any way we can.

For this challenge, I'll try to land on the moon, set up a defence parameter around my forward base and if a few days nothing happens, try to scout the ruins if I can land near them. The crew I have have a good focus on combat, medical and all-around general survival, while keeping morale high, so I'm hoping to survive properly until rescue comes my way. Resources are enough for 25 days of keeping things up, so max 5 days into the endeavour I'll need to go ahead and scout.
The lack of habitat for everyone is counter-balanced by the fact someone needs to be on watch at all times, also Food will need to be rationed carefully unless we find something in the ruins that is edible. Hoping the Life Searcher can pull his weight on this task, with enough firepower to keep him alive while he does so.
All in all, keep things tight, sit down, take minimal risks and wait for extraction.
Are you going to do a hive post as well? (so you earn a few cents towards future packs) ;)
Thanks for sharing! Supplies are definitely rough on the moon!
Indeed, hoping those abandoned structures are abandoned and have something useful in them, otherwise it'd be a short rescue mission!
I don't think I'll make a post just yet, let's see if we can survive long enough, not wanting to spread bad builds around
WOW! A Vanguard!
Please note that cards are coming from existing drops, thanks to exoderewardspool and personal storage. This is an amazing display of generosity from players, and I love it. Exodegame sponsors the booster packs! :P
Good luck to all who will apply!
Very interesting challenge.
BTW the asteroid is orbiting at the L3 Lagrange point of the planet, one of 5 stable Lagrange point orbits that every orbital body has.
With the Baldie's very limited cargo capacity it is very difficult to carry enough energy, life support/air, food and water to keep alive for 90 days.
But I think I've found a solution.
I'm getting addicted to this game and it isn't even playable with my own cards yet!
I look forward to seeing your solution! 90 days on either the moon or asteroid are rough unless you are using robots instead of people.
Here is my entry. Link is at the bottom of post.

Ps. Sorry, this is @blockmonster of course...
Here is my entry! :). https://peakd.com/hive-155862/@palasatenea/exode-planetary-challenge-fly-me-to-the-moon
Sorry Captain, did not get time to create a pretty post. However, I did create a deck for the challenge. My chosen celestial world is the Ocean world
It is called 'apprentice'
Here is my deck:

Looks like I might have the first entry, Good Luck captain!

Thank you very much for your contribution @nochzonk!
Please provide a link to the launcher for your build - see rule #3: "You must use the Launcher to build your deck and share it with us in your post" - This is important for us to be able to test your colony against the coming events and challenges :-)
Hi Khazakh,
I've added links to my post, Hopefully you can view ok?

My Launcher
Works perfectly, thank you very much for adding the link!
I'm using two slots of cargo, other entries have four as it was changed for testing purposes. So could cause some confusion and advantages for some captains!
This sadly causes some confusion sometimes. Each point of cargo on a ship provides you with two cargo slots. In this case you are fine, though, as you are using a Large Prefab which uses up 3 instead of 1 cargo slot.
Still, we could be a little clearer on that, so that's some room for improvement there.
The good thing about the challenges it helps you learn the cards & the decks

I had to edit the deck
Little last minute entry here...

No long post to go with this, only a general strategy for the pilot and crew. 6 man crew, 5 habitat spots, means teams of two on constant rotation to keep watch. 3 food per day means half rations for the entire stay. 4 energy/day needed to support shelter and food. The power cells will last 50 days, so I hope my gut was right and this is an abandoned mining operation. I will need to find energy source and water. Hopefully it is abandoned but if not I am hoping my military group, which is decently armed can handle any altercation. And if not that my stealth bonus from the agent is enough to hide. We would settle the light side of the asteroid and go underground to avoid as much heat as possible.

Here's my entry. We are going to the moon! Our plan is to land as close to, and as safely as possible, the alien ruins at the pole (even if we burn virtually all our fuel). Hopefully we will find alien relics to bolster our supplies, but with careful rationing we should have enough to survive until pickup.

Now I can finally look at the other entries! Good luck everyone!
Awesome contest!
I assume that everything we use will be un upgraded since we can’t upgrade things to add to the launcher yet?
That's correct - all cards are to be considered their base version with no upgrades/experience gained.
That's an exciting challenge!
I particularly like having the choice of planets... Though it makes me want to do three different entries :P
The FAQ says:
Does this mean we can assume that the Baldie will be able to provide us with 200 energy?
I think not. They said the baldie would burn all fuel upon arrival for this situation
Yeah, in this particular scenario they suggested bringing an energy source.
how could i miss this before
it's time to go back
