Forests of the world: #worldphotography

What a great subject for this round of the #worldphotography contest. I love forests and I've been quite lucky that I have been able to visit a lot of them during my holidays abroad.

One of the most memorable ones is the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.
Way back in 2007 my wife and I made a beautiful roundtrip through Ecuador. One of the highlights of this trip was camping on the banks of the Shiripuno river.

The next photo is my entry for the contest:

We went on a couple hour trip down the river by boat with a guide and a cook.
This local guide could tell us a lot about the rainforest and the beautiful nature.

Further down the river we made a camp on the banks of the river.
At night we went to find and capture caimans. At least, our guide captured one. Just to show it from close. He released it immediately afterwards.

We've spent 3 days in this beautiful rainforest and spotted a lot of species of birds, reptiles, insect and mammals. Otters, monkeys, colourful macaws, butterflies and even a baby tarantula.
The trees really are huge and there are enormous lianas hanging from them.

It really was a wonderful experience.
