So i had a thing for Pears a few years back... Great to paint... Through i would share the journey. I paint lots of pears...
PEARS
Sorry struggling today with the light for the photos.... We have a good old Tropical summer thunderstorm a rolling right on in at school pick up time... duh... when else do you get hail and thunder... lol... but here is the painting. There is some description on the process below.
THE PREQUEL
The first things i did was test of the techniques on a smaller painting on a canvas panel.
METHOD
All of these are oil paintings
block in
First of all i set up the still life and took like 100000 photos to have a look at the composition. I wanted to play a bit with the shadows.
Next step i sketched in the shapes looking at the lights and darks. I also made shre the canvas was not white (its actually a wooden panel)
Yes my easel is in an odd position for the photos.
TONAL STUDY
Glazing the oils over in thin layers of paint and medium
Very thin layers needed to still see the tones from underneath. slowly i built up the colour
Tadah its nearly finished
Here are some photos of some of the set ups i tried.
Sketch of another painting i did in preparation... Note i hadn't finished at this point its just a basic colour layer
thanks for looking... More recently i have not had the time for big oil paintings and i have been doing smaller painting sin acrylic paint. Mostly of sunsets at the moment. due to kids and work and things, so its been a bit tricky.
but thanks for looking.
Regards
This looks great. The dark vase makes the composition stand out. Very cool and elegant work.
Thank you so much... unhappily that lovely little vase managed to hide permanently in the move and i can no longer find it. I still wonder if it managed to float out when we flooded in the big wet... sigh... but many thanks for stopping by
