Hello, Hivites
How's everyone? I hope you're doing alright.
Been feeling really funky... again. But that's only because I was on anti-nausea meds after anesthesia and as anyone whose been on cyclizine hydrochloride, that just castrates enthusiasm.
But I thought "well, let me power through the creative anemia". And so I picked up my make-shift sketchbook, picked a beautiful subject, and went to town.

Process

I started with a pencil sketch and to really get in there, I broke out a new mechanical pencil. I decided on a two value sketch just to have an idea about where the light falls and shadows are.
On a side note, I broke out my old scanner from 2011 to digitally capture the image. It worked just fine and I think I'll be doing more physical sketch work and scanning just to see the digital. Something about a digitized sketch that just makes me feel good.

I then went on to add a shadow side value on the background and slapped on close to absolute black for the shadows.

At first, when putting the middle value, I thought it might be too dark but, thinking back, it was appropriate for the environment.

Here I had to do some subtle stuff to add the middle value between the two and blend them together.

I really like how it came out. She came out on the younger side, which is just a thing with me and my art but I'm satisfied with the result.
