The 6th Try

Repetition is key.

This holds true meaning for different things. When I was in my English class during college, I remembered feeling grateful that a certain lesson has been ingrained in my mind since the topic was taught each year from grade school until I graduated in high school.

In life, fate has a playful way of teaching us a lesson when we're too stubborn to learn it. We'll experience a few heartaches. We go through different struggles only to end up facing the same lesson.

There's no difference in drawing. I'm no expert. I'm just only a beginner, but I know this much.

In my last post, I motivated myself to practice even when I feel like I don't want to. I think it is paying off, albeit rather slowly.

The 6th Try

Eyes - there's something drawing me to practice sketching eyes, so I've decided to draw a series of this interesting part of our face. I want to show how I started from the first try:

1st Attempt

The day I received my pencil set, I tried to draw straight from my imagination. There are a lot of learning points, from the pupil to the eyelashes. The eyebrows are pretty messy, too.

2nd Attempt

For this one, I decided to draw Red Velvet's Irene. I'm sure it did not go well (lol). However, you can see a little bit of improvement especially in the eye balls.

3rd Attempt

I became frustrated in my last try so I decided to get help from a drawing book - Barber and Smith's "Essential Guide to Drawing: A Practical and Inspirational Workbook."

As you can observe, it's now pretty decent, but there are still hard lines. Still not too realistic

(I'm eyeing to draw realistic portraits in the future. A girl can dream.)

4th & 5th Attempts

I went to an old friend named Pinterest and looked for eye drawing exercises. I found one and tried it, but the result didn't look identical to the picture.

Latest Attempt

So for my last attempt (at least for yesterday), I decided to draw from a real photo with clear details. Fortunately, I still have the close up photo I took of @jcdeveza in 2018.

Practice really does wonder.

'Til the next practice post. Thank you!
