The ancient Greeks believed that it was the Moirai who determined the three most important stages of the life of every creature.

Moirai, my character drawing
They controlled the fate of people, but each of the goddesses had different stages of life. For example, moira Clotho gave life by determining the time of birth.
The second sister, Lachesis , followed directly the fate of a person or deity. Only her whim depended on the happiness of those who came to this world. Success and fame, shame and misfortune - all this Lachesis could give her ward.
The third, Atropos, embodied inevitability. Atropos cut the thread of human life, stopping its path in the world of the living. She embodied death, which comes at one time. Atropos allowed a person to live the term allotted to him, after which she heard neither pleas nor requests to extend life. Sophocles calls her the daughter of Nyx, which is true - death and darkness often went along in representations of ancient peoples.
Despite such different duties, the sisters were united in their business. The ancient Greeks represented three goddesses with threads in their hands. Each thread is someone's fate. One of the sisters chooses her, the second strands, and the third makes sure that she breaks off at the right time.
