Hi All!
I want to share with you the amazing Golden Ratio. Im sure many people have heard of this, but if you haven't here is a photo of it.
This amazing phenomenon is found through out our natural world. Think of a wave, and the way it moves and crashes, or an opening flower, the centre of a sunflower, or a cone shells. Its found EVERYWHERE in nature! Its also said to be the exact proportions of a persons face....It's kind of like a natural law in our world.
Lately, I have been trying to incorporate the idea into my art. I noticed looking at my artworks there always felt like there was something just a tiny bit off... an eye too high, a jaw too wide, an animals head just not quite right. Basically, the proportions just looked a tad off. And it was starting to bug me big time!
I started thinking about how I could fix this so that I didn't end up with a finished painting I wasn't happy with. In came the Golden Ratio....
I started imaging it in all aspects of my work. I never drew it out, I just pictured it in my head and then drew to that image.....and it started working!!!
My first attempt was when trying to paint a girl with a shell on the back of her head...here are the sketches and you can see by the time we get to the painted version how much correct the proportions look!
Then, I tried it with this jacket. The cats body joins up perfectly with the Golden Ratio.
If you look closely at the eye on this bird, then imagine the first image on this post laid over it you can see that from the eye, if you go to the right and follow the curve of the head to the left, the golden ratio appears!
Here is another example :)
Doing this little trick has truly helped make my art better! It makes me happier to look at knowing everything is where it is suppose to be :)
