Werewolf in Palestine artwork progress!

Hey, Hive! If I made this any later, I’d be watching the sun come up. I’ve been trying hard to get to sleep at a decent hour but there’s a lot of balancing going on in my life right now. I saw friends today. @tarotbyfergus did a reading for me to help get some insights on a heavy therapy session I have coming up Thursday. I did manage to get some illustration time in which was good. Almost a year ago, a friend asked me to draw her being killed by a werewolf. This was after seeing a zombie illustration I did in a similar horror comic. I’ve always wanted to do this drawing and I finally got a start on it this weekend.

DISCLAIMER! Here’s how I handle NSFW on Hive. If I think it’ll get me reported or banned on Facebook or Instagram, I’ll use the NSFW tag. If I’m confident it’ll pass on the Zuckerberg platforms, I don’t feel the need to censor here it on Hive. This drawing has been up on my Instagram story for most of the day and it hasn’t been a problem, so I’m going to share it here with more context and hope it doesn’t offend anyone. It’s been quite a while since I’ve worked on a comic illustration just for fun. It’s been a reminder that I must, at all costs, find time to do this for my health and overall happiness in life.

The composition was pieced together from several reference sources from all over the internet. I had a friend pose for the hands of the werewolf; something that was giving me a lot of trouble throughout the early stages of the drawing. I drew from a lot of Bernie Wrightson work for the feeling and inks of this piece. I’m a diehard EC Comics fanboy so that era informs a lot of my taste in what I like to draw. The horror element if always with me. In fact, that gene got passed down to @guthrie. I’m only half way done but I love how this is turning out.

One thing that did surprise me was the resounding response I got when posting the progress on Instagram. I’m known for dark pinup photography, and that’s a double edged sword. Often times, that all people want to see from me. I’ve tried to share my comic work on social media and it lands with a thud. This werewolf piece got a ton of likes; more than most of my photography — I don’t get it. I thought this would wildly offend and turn off mainstream followers, but it seems to be well received. This is where I finished tonight. I’ll post the final art soon.
