I believe this is my first watercolor drawing of a cat and I'm really happy how it turned out :D I used photo reference, so that helped greatly.
This was a part of my May Patreon portraits special promotion, I've reached out to a few supporters on another website who have bough my art and I got one response. Rhonda sent me photos of her incredibly adorable kittens and I have 2 more to draw, so stay tuned ;)
I used white space technique to paint this drawing. Since the cat is mostly white/light, I had to be careful with the strokes. It's not impossible to erase watercolors, but it can get messy and ruin the paper. The background of the photo was mostly grey/black, but I decided to use some colors to make the drawing more lively.
I used maybe a little too much yellow for the body, since I prefer paint over blank paper. I have some white watercolor, but it seems to work best in mix with other colors. Most watercolors sets don't really have white paint, since that's considered more like gauche paint.
I was worried for how the face would turn out, so I used a pencil to mark the eyes, I try to use it minimally, since pencils can show through the paint.
Almost done, missing just a few more details :D
Thank you for reading and checking out :D
Naww it's a cute kitty XD I think it turned out pretty good :)
Thank you :3
Wow, such a sweet looking kitty. Wonderful painting, Kristy! 🤗
Thank you :D Yeah the original photo is so cutee
Its awesome watercolor art, Kristy!
Cat as alive)))
Thank you!! :D
Wow, you did great for a first time. My first watercolour painting ages ago ended with the so-called "painting" being only water and no colour XD
But I think I can imagine your anticipation as you were getting closer to painting the face. There is no undo button, so each stroke must be perfect, which you managed to do! 👍
Thank you :D
Thankfully I took the time to find my thinnest brush for the eyes, since most of the painting I did with relatively thick ones.
Also I used to paint mostly water no color for yearsss xD Especially with temperas, I've had several papers melt on me before haha.It takes some effort to use more color, but it's worth it :D
Lovely!
Cats are great and you certainly got the pose of a chilled kitty right :)
Thank you :D I love cats, they have so many cool personalities that they show off ^^
They are cool, I miss not owning one but I don't think it would be fair to do so in an apartment. One day!
Awww sameee, no kitty, living in apartment. Good luck to you for getting a kitty some day :D
