Burg Liechtenstein, the ancestral seat of the Princes of Liechtenstein, was the subject of my plein air session in the Autumn air.
I'm still coming to grips with working plein air painting as it poses many challenges that studio painting does not.
For one, you have to travel, often a distance to your subject, second, it's dependent upon the weather, third, you have to work quick at the lighting is constantly changing through out the day.
On the flip side, working outdoors affords me the chance to enjoy the last of the good weather for the year.
Having the camera handy, helps with being able to finish the painting in the comfort of the studio.

Have you considered oil pastel instead of oil? Those Sennelier sticks are mighty creamy and downright sensuously workable, their pigment payoff unbelievable. The setup, however, is ridiculously fast. Only the price is a bit of a bummer, but in a small format not too crazy.
Yes, I do indeed do know about and have a couple of Sennelier sticks. That's actually a very good suggestion. Thank you! I had not thought of them.
I'm having a second look at oil pastels just now. Bought student grade originally and didn't like it much. Since then I decided to invest in a few Sennelier and Caran d'Ache. Low and and behold, that's an interesting medium and it plays well with gouache.
I understand Mungyo Gallery are also pretty good, but no open stock available in Germany.
Although, I think time is starting to run out for plein air painting this year, so maybe it might have to wait until next year to try them out in the field.
