The latest painting off the easel is a commission for one of my English collectors. He needed another painting to compliment the current painting of mine he had. So naturally of course, I obliged him.

This is now the third in a series of figures bathing in the golden light of the sun.

"Golden Light III", Leo Plaw, 30 x 24cm, oil on canvas

Thank you!

Fantastic!

I’m curious, do you take commissions?
Any information on the process etc, if you don’t?
Thanks!

Hi Ash, yes I do / take commissions.
Process: Not too dissimilar from what I guess you would do when you take on a new video project.

First scope the project / commission, which means discussions and note taking on what the client wants. Show previous examples of work, especially if there is a previous piece that they would like something similar to.

Based upon the scope, artwork size, I would then provide a costing, along with an expected completion date. When everything is agreed upon and payment is made, I begin work.

I keep the client / collector updated through creation process, so they know something is happening, plus its interesting for many as it is world that is foreign to them.

When completed, the artwork is securely packaged, and priority shipped, with a tracking number, requiring a signature upon delivery.

Brilliant - thanks for your detailed reply!

If you ‘do’, even

I like that you included a tan line, nice attention to detail XD

Gotta love that golden light :)

Cheers! It's the attention to detail that counts. =)

Thank you!

You're so talented, especially with the lighting and anatomy. Beautiful! Are you using a real model, a photography or only your brain as a reference?

Thank you!
I'm still training and practising, so I mostly work from photo references, they stay still longer than a model does. 😀

With a digital photo image I can also colour correct and edit the image how I want.

Painting anatomically correct (and detailed) figures from imagination is god mode. I hope to reach it one day.

"they stay still longer than a model does"
yes, I had always been concerned about models getting uncomfortable holding a pose, so I worked often from photos as well. However, nothing beats a life model for drawing exercises that must be done quickly to capture the dynamic of the pose with a few strokes. Such quick sketches are very useful for the final painting.
And then, you might enjoy the interaction with the model, as in this image by Kurt Regschek:

Interesting - the bikini line - is that what he wanted?

The stunning and total natural essence of the moment captured. Very nice.
