I would like to share the process of painting using acrylics and simple tools.
This is fun and rewarding technique with no palette or brushes to wash afterwards.

CREATIVE PROCESS:

This painting is done with acrylic paint and a masonry spatula.
Spatulas are cheep and handy tool, which is easy to create wonderful effects and transitions with.
They come in handy for creating textured paintings with thick layers of paint.

Some of the spatulas, and spatula-like tools I use for painting:

This particular painting was done in thin layers, so most of the colors are transparent and almost all the layers are visible regardless of constant paint layering.

As a preparation I am doing simple compositions to see how the colors behave and mix together.
The paint is placed on paper straight from the tube, and then smeared in different directions with spatula.

I often use colorful paper when working on small "fast" paintings. That way my background is done at the very beginning, or in need for only few more touches. Furthermore, I am avoiding oversaturating paper with color, this way.

These examples are not something, but a good starting point, to study the way colors behave and mix together, depending on the paint placement and usage of the painting tools.

I drew this abstract piece on a white paper. For starters, I lightly sketched outline of all forms that will be appearing in this painting.
Then, I placed the paint straightly from the tube on paper, and began painting.

Yellows and whites are placed first, and later on darker colors are added. I kept adding more layers of paint until the painting was finished.

FINISHED PIECE:

I believe that the beauty of abstract artwork lies in its openness to interpretation. Even though my initial idea was to paint the castles, it is not what everybody will recognize while glancing at this piece.
One of the interpretations I loved was, that this piece represents mushrooms spread over the forest floor.

What do you see?
(Feel free to post a comment! It is amusing for everyone to see other's interpretations, especially the unusual ones ;)
