Hello everybody :)
I would like to show you the skull and muscle anatomy study I used as a base to draw a portrait.
When drawing the head and face realistically, can help understanding the skull shape and the ways the muscles are positioned.
I prefer drawing portraits on bigger paper. It is easier for me to notice the mistakes and to work on the details without overseeing them or taking shortcuts by smudging the paper.
The next couple of drawings are done in pencil.
On the second drawing I decided to induce some color in order to show the flesh nature more realistically.
The portrait is done by observation.
For the end, I will share the section of da Vinci's "Treatise on painting", considering the portraying of people, I find amusing and true:
" The painter who has bulky hands will make the same ones in his artwork, and this will happen to every part of the body, Unless the long learning does not prevent him from doing so.
Therefore, you, painter, take a good care of that part of your body which is the ugliest and protect yourself well from it with your teaching; because if you are stupid, your figures will look just as mindless, and also all the good and bad that is in you, will be shown partly in your figures. "
(I didn't find the translation in English, so I tried to translate it myself)
