Sometime late last year, I was randomly contacted by someone looking to make enquiries about my work. To my utmost surprise, he was a staff of the renown oil company Chevron at Lekki, Lagos.
They wanted to gift portraits to two members of staff, I’m not entirely sure if the occasion though. I was surprised because jobs like that usually only come through referrals and I couldn’t link any one.
There was a big challenge though, I had very limited time to deliver, I took the contract regardless because I always believe I can do whatever I set my heart to.
I ended up finishing both in about 8 days! It took a process I had never tried before; simultaneous drawing. I was moving between both, reaching each stage on both pieces before moving to the next. It was really interesting!
For this project I worked majorly with pastels to establish skin tones. Then I used color pencils to sharpen the tones and bring out details. Before introducing pastels, I used charcoal to establish the tones, just like you have an underpainting for oils.
I have included progress shots below…
A little glimpse of my workspace…
Took this just after framing, on my way to drop them off
What do you think? Thanks for stopping by. I’d appreciate a thumbs up or a share. Thanks a lot fam
The colors and details on the skin looks incredible. I really enjoy the way you've detailed the denim too. very real textures. Well Done!!!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you could spot the details, it was worth it.
