I think for every artist, the Inktober challenge is one of the most interesting, exciting and fun experiences in their art world. At least, it is to me! Every year I try to complete this Inktober challenge and the pressure stays with me for the whole month of October! Creating 31 artworks on 31 themes for an entire month is a big challenge, but I try to enjoy every bit of it!
I love to take Inktober to another level! For each theme, I plan a story from my real life experiences and create the art accordingly. So along with the art, I also write a background story. And to my surprise, people tend to love the stories more than the art! Their inspiration helps me to work through the whole month, and post on a daily basis.
This also creates problems like without reading the story, it’s hard to connect the theme with the art.
For example, my Day 2 theme was “Discover”, and I painted a bowl of veggie noodles. The background story was that when I started cooking regularly, I discovered that I was not that bad cook (which was totally new to me since I used to be terrible at cooking)! Gradually, I became quite skilled!
For day 4, the theme was “Exotic” and I painted a dessert made of muffin with ice cream. As I never tried it before, this food was a new exotic item to me! And I totally loved it!
On the day 9, I painted a morning scenario from Balishira Resort. Though the sun wasn’t main focus here, I enjoyed the sun rays the most in that morning!
Also on the day 20, I drew the Mahananda river, for the theme “Uncharted”. Here, the story is, we travelled to Panchagarh, which is the northernmost district of Bangladesh. Here we have Mahananda river which share border with India. Now as India is one kind of dominating country for Bangladesh, they’re claiming this river, entirely as their property. And this is totally unjustified. The saddest part is, the Bangladeshi government is doing nothing to protect this river, along with the area. So it is becoming one kind of uncharted on our map.
But out of all the themes, it was most painful to cover the day 23 theme “Rust”. My pet cat, Dosshu died three months ago, and his memory still brings tears to our family. Dosshu was with us for the last four years. His health condition was deteriorating for the past year. He somehow was beaten by an outsider, and his backbone was displaced. For this reason, he couldn’t move freely like other cats. And gradually, his nerves in his back deteriorated. and his two hind legs stopped being working. We tried several medicines and injections and he was under vet’s supervision but his condition worsened.
In his last 5 months, he couldn’t control his pee or poop. Then he developed a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) where blood stared coming from his bladder and it was unstoppable. This worsened his condition further and led to his death. I am still keep his belt, which is now covered in rust and this rust is hard to take!
In my next post, I will try to put all my Inktober art in one post. Until then, stay tuned!
