Art from the past - Shelby Mustang GT500 (with the story of my latest commission)

in OnChainArt5 years ago (edited)

I would like to tell you how I got my recent commission today. Yesterday I was walking from the public library where I often sit and work on my drawings. I was on my way to a friend nearby to grab a coffee when I noticed a very nice 1950s Chevy parked outside his apartment. I know I had seen it last year and I remembered that I took some photos of it, but I don't have them anymore. It was standing perfectly with the light from the sun, it was fresh and in my opinion very good condition. I took some photos with my phone because I really wanted to draw it.

A little bit further away there was a family having a barbecue. One of the guys had the 50s style with grease in his hair and everything. I walked up to them and asked them if they knew who owns the car. He said it was his so I asked him if he wanted to buy a drawing of it. He almost immediately said no but I took up the drawing I had made of the Shelby Mustang you can see in this post. I saw his eyebrows raising and he said wow, I wasn't expecting that. He asked me what I wanted for a drawing so I gave him the prize for A4 and A3 sizes. He said he needed to think about it so I said he could just notify my friend and he could give my contact information.

I wished them a good evening and walked to my friends apartment. But before my friend opened the door the guy came back to me and said "I have thought about it now and I want one in A3". I laughed and said "that was fast". Yeah I was just caught off guard so I needed a minute he said. We exchanged phone number and I said to him that I will call him when it is ready.

The lesson I learned from this is that you should always take the opportunity when it is given. This guy knows many people with classic cars and most of them treat their cars like a baby. If I do a good job he will show it to everyone and then I will have more work to do :)

The drawing I showed him is featured below with some process photos and my reference. I have posted this drawing before but I hope you like it anyway!

Wow, this looks stunning! I love your attention to detail, down to minute shadows and reflections. My ignorance on muscle cars is unfortunate, but I believe this car is called an Eleanor, right? Cheers for sharing this lovely artwork :-D

Thank you for your comment :) yes it's called the Eleanor from the movie gone in 60 second. This is my personal favorite of all mustang all time

I don't know much about it, but it's certainly very pretty! Every time I think of American muscle car, Eleanor is the first thought that comes to mind.
