I've got you... under my skin...

You know the feeling, when you are a bit light-headed, feel a bit drowsy. Do you then pinch your skin to check if you are actually 'there'?

Do you feel comfortable in your skin? Rather yes or usually no?

Do you often check in the mirror how time is treating you?

Do you notice small changes? Skin that was recently tight and mushy becomes delicate and thin, like parchment that is now too thin - no longer hiding your secrets?

I like to observe small changes, rubbing the skin until it becomes flushed, pinching it and seeing how quickly it returns to its original shape and colour.

I like wrists. Even when our skin is young, firm and moist, the wrists shamelessly reveal it's insides. We can feel the pulse, count the floral vessels, apply a drop of perfume - and warmth of wrist gives them real character.

The skin is not only the largest organ of our body (up to 6% of the total body weight), but it is also involved in thermoregulation, increases the absorption of certain substances, and is involved in water, electrolyte, fat and vitamin regulation. But also, and this seems to me the most important at the human level - it enables us to perceive impulses from the external environment.

Cold, heat, rough and smooth surfaces, dry and wet. The skin not only enables us to appreciate the complexity of the world, but also reacts, often independently of our will. The hairs on the back of our neck stand up when we get stressed, the goose bumps when we hear our favourite song, the flush that comes to our cheeks when we see someone our brain has found attractive.

These reactions are sometimes welcome - they are also can be quite embarrassing. But doesn't showing our true nature from time to time make us little more human? We scrutinise our surroundings, we spend hours upon hours choosing a good photo for a social media, we shop for clothes that 'enhance our personality', we pop our acnes, pluck our eyebrows, get rid of hair or transplant hair where it's missing. We want our bodies to be submissive to us. To not only serve us, but to look, smell and do what we want it to do.

And all it takes is a moment of forgetfulness, a moment of distraction - and our body takes over.

I like those moments when my own body surprises me. Sometimes I feel that it is a completely separate entity, that in fact my control is phantom like, and here only for a moment.

My hands sweat when I get very stressed. Usually they are cold, dry and the skin mercilessly and painfully cracks on them, but when I get stressed - my hands suddenly become tender, soft and warm. I don't feel then that I have the slightest effect on my body. I just try not to shake hands with anyone 🙃

I watch carefully changes in its(skin) appearance. Some time ago I started to be much more aware of its presence and how I treat it. I rub my eyes frequently, scratch my back nervously. I look for new wrinkles. I study them with interest. The new lines, at first shallow, are beginning to flare into 'crow's feet', the thin vertical line on my forehead has turned into a 'lion's wrinkle', the soft, light skin under my eyes is now the colour of a bruise that can pretend to be 'gained in a fight'. I welcome these changes with interest and a smile.

The wispy, stretching skin increases my distance from life and is my shield when dealing with others who still enjoy their illusion of control over their bodies:)

About the drawing

I've taken the liberty of combining my two loves - dance and anatomy. So the pose is very much a dance like but it does not expose the emotions - but the muscles:) Watching the body in movement not only reveals its weaknesses but also its strength. The resilience of the muscles, the tightness of the tissues and the skeleton that holds everything together. I've used soft 4B pencil at the very start, and then I've been using mostly technical, hard pencils apart form very dark shades.

Today, the skin does not prevent us from seeing little bit more.

I wish you all great rest of the week!

That's some incredible anatomical study. When is your work gonna be in a museum?

I don't think it qualifies as a work of art. But if so - after my death, I assume :)

The collected stains formed on paper by the existence of @strega.azure

A future curator:

Join us for a look into the skilful way in which primitive humans stained slices of dead tree with substances in a representational manner. Before the days of AI conceptualising all creative things, humans used the mediums of Art to convey their emotions. Now, in the year we don't bother to count anymore; we reflect upon a time where the need to convey emotions existed and ask ourselves, "Why?"

I thank you sincerely for 'skilful'!🤗

I wanted to quote something, but I love this all! I imagined people, look completely alike like in 'Equilibrium' watching my drawings with faces totally devoid of expression accompanied with their personal androids, which at that point is only fancy purse holder :D

What if we could store things within the Android? Surely there's to be space where our organs once were. Perhaps the Androids could be shortened due to the lack of a requirement for a large torso full of organs, and we could have child-like android slaves.

Creepy, but it ultimately saves on manufacturing costs and material requirements. Capitalism wins again.

I actually subscribe backpack:) I can't imagine someone/something following me all day long.
From time to time - sounds interesting, but still - another machine around. I think it's enough that my phone is eavesdrops and gathers information about me...

I'm in awe... your bone and muscle studies are exquisite! Dance poses are some of the most dynamic and beautiful ones and at the same time difficult with all the twists, turns and stretches. Love your work!

Thank you very much. I really wanted to work on my anatomy skills, but I find it bit boring, so I had to add some move to it:)

I am glad you like it! Thank you for visiting my blog!

That's some amazing drawing. I love the changes they bring just like the skin.

The skin is a beautiful outer layer that covers us and takes good care of us. And I love how you speak about it.

Thank you!
Skin is simply superb on its own, and how it varies in different parts of our body. Can be dry and rough, like the one on the heel, or it can be thin and delicate, like the one on the lips. I find it extremely interesting:)

It is extremely intriguing knowing which one you have and take absolute care of it.

Your art transcends from actual art work to body. Although, I know that body itself is art. You examine each new line, each new crease like works of art, seeing the beauty, appreciating the changes. It's beauty...in it's artfulness. It's amazing and you are too.

Thank you @jhymi very much, it means a lot.
I just think we rarely really appreciate our normal, regular bodies. We are so feed up with magazines, films, runaways that deforms our true image in our eyes. We become lost, and out of place. We really are not :) They just went to far with surgeries, beauty pageants and all this nonsenses:)

Was really nice to hear your voice on PYPT! See you around!

Everyone is all about rights and body positivity and while I understand and respect the fact that anyone can do whatever they want with their bodies, I just wish it didn't turn out so bad for them in the end.

And please @strega.azure, don't remind me. I was shaking and I know my voice sounded less than nice.

Filler here, silicone there... it mad what is going on, really. And most of all - very sad.

@jhymi - are you serious?! You've been great! I haven't heard any hesitation in your voice or anything, it was really lovely! Looking forward to hear more:)

it was really lovely! Looking forward to hear more:)

Oh, that's amazing. You've totally made my evening. I'm glad it wasn't whiny at all. Looking forward to hearing more of yours too.🤗

Great work, the muscle work looks particulary fascinating. You got some great captures of the work too. :)

Thank you @mypathtofire!
I wish I had more time on my hands, so I can work on teeny-tiny details, but gotta work from time to time ;)

Yay! 🤗

Wow, I don't know much about technique, but your drawing looks excellent, I love that combination of muscle, bone, skin and.... dance.

Thank you, really appreciate your comment!
Nice to see you around!

Impressive! There are so many things we can observe about our body, now, that dichotomy between muscles and bones shown in your work reveals so much more; something extremely attractive.

Turns out, what is really matters lies inside, but maybe not that deep as we think 😉

Although it make sense in context of bones vs. muscles I am very far from dichotomy of thinking. All seem to be... grey:)

I am glad you like my drawing:)

AMAZING study in structure, and musculature for human form. Lovely drawings and very much, Sensual.

Thank you sooo much! It would be great to have time to do only this:)

I admire your talent to express everything you want to show us in the drawing, what a nice job.

I am glad you find my rambling and drawing compatible:) Cheers!
