Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
I haven't done an actual commission in a long long time, but it is available upon request if any of my viewers or streamer friends would like me to do some art for them. I don't charge much since I haven't had much experience doing commissions and compared to other professionals I'm quite a newbie.
Anyway, one of my streamer friends known as Phangtasy on Twitch recently commissioned me to do a few emotes for him and I was more than happy to help out however I could!
I'd previously done some emotes for him which I'm glad he really liked, and his avatar is a pig which is quite easy to draw.
This is one of the older emotes I did for him (link to the post here):
Anyway, he ordered 5 emotes and thankfully had some ideas for them. One of which was a hydrate emote that is quite common on Twitch. It's basically the streamer or character drinking a bottle of water, or sipping from a drink. I found a few different references that I thought look good and let Phang choose which style he wanted.
Then I did a rough sketch for him to see how it would look like with his pig. Initially he was thinking of drawing tea in a mug, but it didn't look as good so we went with this glass bottle that I thought would look best since the colours have to be obvious in a 56px size emote.
After he okay-ed it I worked on the outline and colour:
And after adding some shadows and highlights it was done!
There's a story about why the moon on the cheek was removed, and it's quite personal but basically it was related to his partner whom he's not together with anymore, so he requested that I removed the moon from all the emotes. But I did initially draw them emotes with that crescent moon since that was his request at the time.
Here's a timelapse for this emote:
I think it turned out pretty well! I really wanted to maintain some consistency across all the emotes I did for him so I made sure I used the same pink in the piggies. I'm just glad he liked it!
Thanks so much for reading!
