The dragonflies are an obsession for me, I love this beautiful and magical insect, present in many of my works both in painting and in istallations. I made it as an icon, on a small pinstripe wood, by cm 25x25 made with plaster of Bologna and rabbit glue, intended to accommodate a sacred image, an ancien medieval technique, today mostly used in restoration.
Le libellule per me sono un chiodo fisso, odoro questo bellissimo e magico insetto, presente in molti miei lavori sia nei dipinti che nelle istallazioni. L’ho realizzata come un’icona, su una piccola tavola gessata, di cm 25x25 preparata con gesso di Bologna e colla di coniglio, destinata ad accogliere un’immagine sacra, antica tecnica medioevale, oggi usata per lo più in restauro.
I drew the dragonfly while gluing the rope to the wood, working with imagination, freely, without a precise idea, resulting in a relief decoration.
Ho disegnato la libellula mentre incollavo la corda sulla tavola lavorando di fantasia, liberamente, senza un’idea precisa, con risultato, una decorazione a rilievo.
After the drawing, I gave a few coats of plaster to the work, then I sanded it gently, then I started coloring.
Terminato il disegno ho dato alcune mani di gesso, poi l’ho carteggiata delicatamente, quindi sono passata al colore.
I decided to paint only the relief parts with oil colors, I chose the ultramarine blue. It is my prefer color, I like approached to wite, a classical combination, fo me very refind.
When the color dried, I gave it a glossy final varnish for oil colors above the work, it looks like a ceramic.
Amazing, it makes me think of ancient Chinese ceramics, the famous ones from Delft, to the Portuguese ones. A beautiful and unexpected effect, particular as I like it, I think it will be the beginning of a new series of small works.

Ho deciso di dipingere solamente le parti a rilievo con colori ad olio, ho scelto il blu oltremare. E’ il mio colore preferito, mi piace accostato al bianco, un classico abbinamento, per me molto raffinato.
Quando il colore è asciugato ho dato sopra una vernice finale lucida per colori ad olio, sembra una ceramica.
Incredibile, mi fa pensare alle antiche ceramiche cinesi, alle famose di Delft, a quelle portoghesi. Un effetto inaspettato ma bello, particolare come piace a me, penso che sarà l’inizio di una nuova serie di lavori di piccole dimensioni.
