AI is now (present) not tomorrow as many think.

We are tired of hearing the same repetitive excuses about why we don't learn artificial intelligence (AI) and integrate it into our daily work. ‘For safety reasons they won't let me use it’, “sometimes it hallucinates”, or the worst of all: “I already have Copilot, that's the one I use”. It is time to put these justifications aside and face reality, because the AI revolution is here, and those who do not adapt will be left behind.

AI models have outpaced average human capabilities since 2024, and by 2025 we are seeing a new model emerge every month that outperforms even the most accomplished experts on the planet. This means that much of the work based on reasoning and logic will be automated. This is not science fiction; it is already happening. If you think your job isn't at risk, you're probably not paying attention. Half of the human workforce will be impacted by this transformation, but what is critical is not the automation itself, but the attitude towards it. Those who choose to learn and adapt will survive and thrive; the rest simply will not.

The AI Paradox: Do we really know how to use it?

One of the biggest problems is that many people think they know how to use AI because they use it for trivial tasks such as summarising texts or spell-checking. But this is only scratching the surface. AI is not just a chat room; the conversational interface is just one way of interacting with it. However, this limited perception has created a false sense of security that keeps many people stuck.

Look around you - how many professional programmers do not use any advanced AI tools in their day-to-day work? More than a third, according to recent surveys. And when you ask them, you always get the same excuses: ‘The code comes out wrong’, ‘it's not integrated with my environment’, or ‘I'd rather wait until everything is perfect’. But here's the problem: AI is evolving at breakneck speed. What seems useless today could be an indispensable tool tomorrow. Trying something once and discarding it is no longer enough. Every month in the AI world is equivalent to a decade in any other industry.

Human Creativity: The Key Factor in an Automated World

Despite advances, human creativity remains fundamental. AI tools can generate stunning images or write compelling text, but if we don't apply our own imagination, we will continue to repeat predictable patterns. For example, when OpenAI launched its new image generation model, the internet was flooded with Studio Ghibli-inspired illustrations. Why? Because they ‘look pretty’. But this reveals a bigger problem: a lack of creative exploration. We could have used so many other options, but we stayed in our comfort zone.

However, when we combine human creativity with the power of AI, the results are astonishing. Imagine asking a model to turn a simple sketch into a hyperrealistic thumbnail for YouTube in a matter of seconds. Or generating complex commercials with specific instructions, all in English. This not only speeds up the creative process, it also redefines what is possible. But to achieve this, we need to understand how these models work and learn how to use them effectively.

Ego and Fear: Silent Obstacles

Much of what holds us back is not the technology itself, but our own ego and fear of change. Many entrepreneurs and professionals believe they can delegate technical knowledge to others, but that leaves them three steps behind. You can't build world-class products or compete in this new landscape without understanding the fundamentals of AI. Do you know what a neural network is? Do you know the concept of embeddings or the attention model? If not, you are at a disadvantage compared to those who do.

But here's the good news: learning these concepts is not as difficult as it seems. In less than two hours, you can understand the mathematical foundations of AI and position yourself in the top 10% of your field. While your colleagues are still using AI only for basic tasks, you could be leading innovative projects. It all starts with the decision to leave the excuses behind.

A Call to Action: The Future Awaits Us

If you still doubt, consider this: according to Y Combinator (‘YC’ is a Silicon Valley startup accelerator), 95% of the code in a quarter of the latest startups was generated with AI. Companies that do not adopt these technologies are becoming obsolete. But it's not just about using AI; it's about mastering it. Learn about prompt engineering (A prompt is an instruction or text given to an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to generate a result), understand how large language models work, and explore how you can install and customise models on your own computer.

Don't wait for everything to be perfect. Don't wait for someone to hand you the ready-made solution. AI is not the future; it is the present. And if you're not part of this revolution, you risk being wiped out by it. So take control of your career, invest time in learning and join those who are building the future. As Albert Einstein said: ‘Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you have to keep moving’.

But, always the blessed ‘but’; I am not advocating the replacement of human critical reasoning and creativity by Artificial Intelligence, in relation to what is published in HIVE. AI is more than just a composition of words, it is a powerful tool that will be at your fingertips to complement your thoughts, to enhance your talents. The idea is to stop being passive and become dynamic.

To complement this, I invite you to read the post by our friend @detlev, who touches very well on the technological part that we could implement in our homes to enjoy private AI. Here is the publication:

AI at Home: The Revolution for your way of work

What do you decide? Will you continue to cling to excuses, or will you take the first step towards change?
