Remembering My First Vehicular Accident

in Life Stories23 days ago

Hello mga ka-Hive. It is me again with another blog. I was reminiscing my first vehicular accident that happened a year ago. I want to share it to you so as to give awareness about safe driving.

It was 7 in the morning of Thursday, October 26, 2023. All set to go to work, I hopped unto my motorcycle, turned its engine and off I went to the City hall. I was safely driving and just when I reached the police station, there was a checkpoint.

I panicked as the registration of my motorcycle was already expired and was afraid of the possible charges. I was not able to renew the registration as I got busy with work. I made a U-turn to look for a possible route, an escape.

Hours later.

"Where am I?" I wondered.

"Why am I here?"

"Why am I lying?"

Those were the exact questions I asked myself as I opened my eyes. One thing is for sure, I was not in an office. My eyes roamed the surroundings. I was at the emergency room of a hospital.

I closed my eyes and opened again. I did that many times to confirm that I was not dreaming. And my left hand aches. When I lift it, I got scrapes.

Then came two policemen and asked me questions. That was to confirm that I was in the hospital and I got into an accident.

The policemen came to me when they found out that I was already awake and asked me questions. Dazed and dizzy, I answered all of them weakly. "I got into an accident? How?" was at the back of my mind. I barely remember everything. It was one of the policemen whom I crushed into and he kept on apologizing for what had happened. I was worried that it was a policeman but thank God, he was kind enough to consider my unregistered motorcycle. He told me that he will pay half of the total amount of my expenses in the hospital so as my medicines which was fair enough and put a relief in me.

Though, I kind of remember my colleagues who visited me to check my status the moment they knew of my accident. I also remember the sight of my uncle and my sisters. I could also remember that I was vomiting and grumble. But I thought it was all just a dream. Turned out I was a little subconscious at that time.

When my senses had reached up to 90 percent, I noticed that my youngest sister was beside me with a bag filled with my clothes and a Chicken Joy from Jollibee since I had not had my breakfast yet.
So it was really confirmed that I got into an accident.

But how did it happen?

I kept on asking to my sister about my bag and my motorcycle. She said that my motorcycle was in the police station for safekeeping while my office bag was in my colleague. After some test, my vitals were finally normal but I was advised to have a CT scan for my brain and it had to be done immediately. I was then discharged and brought home to rest.

I then received a chat containing the CCTV footage of my accident.

In the footage, I stopped at the Police Station and just when I was about to make a u-turn, a fast speeding motorcycle (policeman who was on his way to work) hit me. My bad as well for not looking at my side mirror. I got out of balance and fell into the ground hitting my head and unconscious. I guess the hit was huge impact as my half face helmet cracked. My helmet was not of good quality anyway.

I was then rescued by the DRRM of the city and brought me to hospital via ambulance.

I was amazed watching the footage as I really had no any memory of it. I did not know that I got hit, fell and been in the ambulance. That was the reason I was advised to do an immediate brain CT scan to see if there are abnormalities in my brain caused by the head collision.

When I got the referral from Doc Christina for my brain CT Scan, we went to Cebu City as there are no available CT scan in my hometown. I had it at Hi-Precision in Osmena Boulevard Cebu City. However, due to the accident, I feel dizzy most especially when I sleep. It felt like my world was turning upside down.

I endured it for some days until I received the result of my CT-scan which will take 2-3 days via online. After receiving the result, I went to my doctor to have it read and thankfully, all were normal. So I informed her that I experience dizziness which was not somehow normal. After answering her questions, she told me that I have vertigo and gave me some prescriptions.

She also advised me not to take coffee, tea, soft drinks and energy drinks or any drinks that has caffeine in it for three months because it will trigger my vertigo. As a coffee and matcha lover, I got disappointed but needed to sacrifice for my well-being. I don't want to experience the dizziness so it was a goodbye to them for three months.

I stopped driving for weeks since I have to repair my motorcycle and buy a good helmet which is my LS2 rapid matte gray to protect my head. This time, I made sure to buy the best quality despite of its price.

I got a little bit of trauma though but it did not stop me from driving. Instead, it was a lesson well learned for me about safe driving and having your motorcycle registered.

Always, always look at the side mirror.

I informed the policeman of the expenses I had from the hospital, to medicines, and to my brain CT scan and gladfully compensated me. We were in good terms now and I also apologized to him as I was partly at fault of the accident.

Now that it has turned one year, it brought back the memories of my first vehicular accident. I also have a remembrance from it which is my scar. The accident taught me to become a defensive driver and to always look at the side mirror. I was thankful that nothing too serious happened to me. Also thankful to my family and colleagues for helping me during the accident.

And thankful to God for giving me life.

So to those drivers, drive safely and carefully and be a responsible driver.

Thank you for reading. Until my next blog.

With so much love - XOXO,
Bev 😘

This is one of the reason why I don't like my husband to buy a motorcycle.

I find it too risky that no matter how cautious you are sometimes , accident still happens.

Your experience was scary glad it was severe!
.

Driving a motorcycle is indeed risky. Accident does happen weather you are being careful or not.

we may not fully avoid being in an accident and thank goodness you've recovered

true, accidents are inevitable. Yes, I have indeed recovered. thank you 😊

You are extremely lucky to be alive and with minimal injuries! My nephew, a young man, crashed his scooter and has been paralyzed for 5 years. He had no head protection. But the spine was the most affected.
Be careful in the future and good luck!

thank you. Yes indeed. I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew.

I really wanted to get my own driving license and buy a motorcycle so I can go anywhere I want with ease and without the need to bother anyone. But every time I hear about vehicular accidents, I suddenly just wanna be a passenger princess forever 🥴

Thank God you're okay now. Please always drive safe 💖

The convenience of owning a motorcycle is great. You could visit places you want to. Accidents are indeed inevitable but we must be extra extra careful. hihihi. Thank you. I'm pretty much okay now.
