A tight Chess960 tournament at the weekly Hivechess
Another week goes by and once again all chess lovers at Hive meet up at the weekly Hivechess tournament sponsored by @stayoutoftherz where I always participate whenever I can and have a good experience with some strong players
This time I'm even more surprised because although I have trained in chess960 I have suffered a few heavy defeats, but I have been able to reach the podium with just my nails and today I want to share with you some of the thoughts I had in this tournament
In 960 there is no opening, there is not much theory to follow so we will have to improvise from the first move or understand how the position is set up to get the most out of it, each round there was a new position to play and this is something that Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, it will put you in a big dilemma.
I didn't have many problems at the beginning because both players were almost always conservative and didn't make too many attacks, but I did find myself besieged on a few occasions at the beginning of the game without knowing what to do or having my pieces attacked twice. It's difficult to recover when you lose a knight or a pawn, but the game continues.
English:
In most cases a pawn is not enough to declare victory, but it does help a lot to give you confidence in your position and then become a little more daring with your strategies, and I also had to make the most of being the player with the highest rating in the tournament.
Many incredible encounters, some lost after a fierce battle and others that I pulled off almost effortlessly, again the 960 is often confusing so the same strategies will not work for you twice in two different games, what I usually do if I have a comfortable position is to attack without remedy and that gave me the advantage in many of these games.
I finally got third place after drifting a couple of times, there came a time when I lost a couple of games in a row and I thought I was more than lost but old friend berserk gave me the points I needed to finish on the podium and get a chance to get first place in the last round next Friday.
