♔♞♙ Chess Puzzle of the Day

puzzle position | posicion del problema

Black to play and win

This position seem somehow chaotic to me with a bunch of hanging pieces, stranded pieces, checks, open lines, etc. Unfortunately white isn't lucky today and thanks to small details they're doomed to drop something. How do you materialize it?

puzzle position | posicion del problema

Juegan negras y ganan

Sort:

I would play Bd4+ Kh1 Bf5 then white has to move the rook and you can take the bishop.

That's correct! And just a little further, what if Rg5 is played after your last move!?

Anyone have the correct solution? or does the author of the post publish the solution later? I am too much of a newbie when it comes to chess, I have only ever won 1 game, ha ha.

Nope, I don't post the answer, hehe. The other people commenting the post have found the answer. Check it out.

  1. Bd4+ (king moves to h1)
  2. Bf5 (rook moves to d6)
  3. Re8 (taking the bishop)
  4. Re1 (checkmate)

I think? Pretty sure that works... the white rook could move to f6 on move 2, but I would just take it with my bishop on d4. I'm just starting to take chess more seriously, and I really do !LUV it. Thanks for sharing these problems... I try to do them on chess.com too. Lots of fun. 🤓

I'm glad you like these puzzles. I try to vary the level quite often, so sometimes they're hard, moderate or easy, you know, not everyone is a master here :) On your solution, that's right, but what if white plays something like 3. Rg5?
