♟️ Amsterdam? Hivechess Season 20 ♟️

in The Chess Community7 days ago (edited)

Hi all here is a lil update,

So far I have missed 2 rounds in Season 20, but I can tell you that isn't going to stop me from trying to get at least to the top 5. If there is one thing that I have learned from Chess then that is to never give up. Today I'm going to be bringing you one of the craziest tactics that I have managed to find in a while, but before we do that let me explain my title. Amsterdam is not an opening hehe however it is the location where I played Round 5 from....a bit overdue I know :(

The game was played against my brother and I was beserking so ofc I was quite happy to find something beautiful...since usually because I know how my brother plays and he knows how I play we end up having boring games.

I would say this is the highlight of the game (white to move):

Here White plays d5, opening the diagonal for the bishop and allowing Black to capture the knight. After White recaptures with the queen, Black must respond with f3, effectively sacrificing the queen. This sacrifice lets Black take the rook on d1. Because Black's light-squared bishop controls a critical diagonal and the pawn on g5 blocks the White king's escape, White is forced to give up the queen to avoid immediate defeat to continue playing.

Here is the position where the sacrifice must occur:

White is most definitely going to lose in this position as seen by the evaluation of -96.0, and so a couple of moves later white resigns.

Another spicy fun game was played against @justfavour. I really enjoyed playing a different type of game this time. There was just a lot going on, and everything felt unfinished and complicated. These are exactly the types of games that I want to play, but a bit more on that later.

In the end I was having to much fun that I forgot about the one-move checkmate and ultimately lost the game. It is what it is :D

The last thing that I would like to talk about is my current performance....ngl it's quick horrible at the moment, and not only feel my performance is bad but thankfully I can also see it in my Lichess account.

This kind of rating drop-off does look scary, but this is not the first rating drop that I have experienced....and I know exactly where it comes from. It comes from my studies, over the last 6 months I had to study a lot and this is not the first time that after my exams I have seen a significant drop in my rating. On the other hand, I have not really been playing the game seriously for a while now, I would more or less call it casual play since I've got a couple of other things to focus on atm.
