Thematic Chess Tournaments
The series of thematic chess tournaments is now over a year old. After the first attempts with special rules for time odds, which often had to end with disqualifications because the rules were not read, it went to well-known openings. I have tried to create a balance by finding the same number of openings on e4 and d4. With 11 out of around 5000 known openings, we still have some leeway and can continue this series over the next 100 years without repetition. Or we work systematically on our skills and deepen our knowledge by delving deeper and deeper into the individual variants.

Thematische Schachturniere

Hey! I'm down for this tournaments. My opinion is pretty much the same I told you in the other post. We can stick to an opening for a while and then switch to another. Let's try to chose more variations, especially those where understanding the position is more relevant than knowing specific lines. IMO, since you're the host, feel free to pick lines from your repertoire, give them priority. That's chess anyway and it's still going to be useful for all of us :)
"down" ????
I think we start the sicilian with the basic opening and then go on to more detailed variations, any idea?
Lets say 5 rounds of sicilian, and then an d4 opening.
To be down for sth is American slang for "I'm in".
Yes, a series of tournaments about the Sicilian is fine. Next time we can try the closed Sicilian or the Gran Prix Attack.
This new stage with the thematic tournaments refreshes and gives another air to the games to be developed. They present us with an opening which I generally ignore, because I do not follow the continuity of the best known variants. I got used to play without following the theory... As a chess promoter, I have a lot of fun playing chess, winning and losing a lot... (my role is more to promote chess than to play it). I still have a lot of fun with the tournaments where I participate weekly here at @Hive. As long as the internet and power supply allow me to do so. Here it's a bit chaotic. Sometimes I feel sorry for not finishing the games because of these inconveniences that happen, and I feel sorry for my opponent who on the other side of the world sees with astonishment that I suddenly stop playing (for the reasons already mentioned). I take this opportunity to apologize, today for example the internet was down in the middle of two games. A thousand apologies... Let's keep playing and sharing!
Thanks a lot! I think we are all aware of the situation in South America, we are happy to have you on the boards, have a nice evening!!
That‘s a great way to learn, @schamangerbert. I don’t mind playing various openings for the next 100 years 😉😂
In fact I don't mind to be here for the next 100 years hahaha
This type of tournament is so interesting! It lets to improve specific lines. Regards from Peru!
Thanks!!

So, how about if we pick up one of the world championships that have taken place throughout the years and play the same openings they played ? It would feel like we are almost there xd, for instance I remover that Kasparov and Karpov ended up with a huge draw score so we can try that repertory out and check if it's really that solid.
After some rounds of sicilian we change to d4 openings. What opening is in the spirit of the champs?
How about Ninzo-Indian more specifically the variants with g3?
Over 100 years! You’ll be playing chess with robots!! LoL
Hopefully not :) The brain need this kind of exercise to stay healthy.
Then, my brain is nit very healthy! Too much nonsense inside! LoL
for someone with no opening repertoire and rapid fire it is time and opportunity learn
small problem is that i keep missing fridays and saturdays
need to try to have more reminders beside Lichess reminder
sounds good for sure
I haven't played a Sicilian for a long long time! :-)
Me neither lol
Thematic chess tournament is a useful exercise to improve mnemonic skill in some chess opening position.
Thanks!!
I Love the thematic series,it has brought deeper understanding of the game. Any opening is fine by me,But i would suggest the Scotch Game. I love it.
I know scotch whiskey :) and it is not for gaming ;)
Great idea @scamangerbert!
I am not a scam :) (check your spelling)
